Sam is right! This is a money making scam.
What benefits monuments is their inclusion in World heritage site list. Recently Red Fort was included in the list. Thats something.

News channels are saying that Taj Mahal has made it to the list. (quite obviously). I am now regretting of starting this thread.

Note that I'd started it before the hysteria reached our shores.

Times NOW said that UNESCO distanced itself from this campaign saying that it was neither democratic nor scientific.

The campany behind this campaign is now launching another campaign to find the natural wonders of the world.

You don't need assistance anymore Ansh. As they say in show business, Khel Khatam, Paisa Hazam.

Obviously - they made so much money they cant stop laughing on the way to the bank. How many poor souls paid $2 each for those worthless 'certificates' ? I know of at least 4 Indians on the same floor in my office who did, despite me telling them its a scam.

Next in line will probably be the Seven Most Beautiful Women in the world, and they'll make sure Aishwarya Rai is on the list and is trailing VERY BADLY, so that everyone around here goes berserk in trying to make sure she's in the final list.

We get so worked up over such trivial issues - why isnt this collective mania visible in getting rid of the muck on our streets, the slums in our cities, the overall lack of civic sense around????

Perhaps because this costs so little. I guess these confidence tricksters figured out how lazy we really are.
