Oye Lucky Lucky Oye -

Watched this movie tonight. The starting of the movie is quite good.

Abhay Deol's acting is good and so is Paresh Rawal's. They are basically themselves and could have easily given more role and substance.

About the movie - the first half is interesting and full of Delhi People's tricks and games and Delhi Con World. I felt it was a bit too exaggerated.

It's about a Con Man's story. Not a full story really, just a few days in his life.

I felt the movie could have been much better. It lacked grip. Something was missing in the movie. The movie was basically all over the place, you really go ' HUH ?? ' at many times in the movie !

Some scenes were really hilarious and almost Delhi Life Like. But that's just about it. It could have been easily half an hour lengthier and could have a good ending or a good climax.

I would say go for it if you have nothing else to do. Else watch it on DVD.

The soundtrack - Jugni - it's awesome and very nice.

Rating - 2.5 / 5.

Oye lucky... 3/5, watchable movie, nothing great.
Any idea about Sorry Bhai and Max PAyne?
I was excited about max payne, but the imdb reviews put me off.
If someone hasn't played the game, for that person how is the movie?

Just watched Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special. A master mimic with his puppets. A must watch, its a complete laugh riot for 1hr 25mins.

I would give it 4/5.

Watched Drona on DVD today. The lamest movie I have seen in the recent times.

What baffled me was, how could an actor who acted in Bunty aur Bubli or Guru could play this infinitely stupid role.

No smoking was another I saw recently, that I will vote as the most hair-puller movie.

dasvidanya: searched and didn't find any review here, saw it last night. Awsome movie.

vinay pathak, ranbir shorey and rajat kapoor seem to be making some interesting combinations nowadays. mixed doubles, bheja fry, and now this.

a must watch for meanigful cinema lovers.
Dasvidaniya (2008)

edit: ah, the review is there...with a different spelling.

Just back from the theatre, though I had read your review even before I booked the tickets. i just needed to go out and refresh myself after 3 days of self imposed curfew, holed up at my one room flat in Mumbai.

I would say the movie is okeyish but could have been better if the director would have completed the second half and then released the movie.

2.5/5 from me too

i recently purchased the VDC of an old classic i heard a lot about - 2001: A Space Odyssey (dir: Stanley Kubrick)

my conclusion: its one of the most meaningless drivel i have ever seen. if anything is an overrated movie, this is it.

just like for modern art, i guess most people sing its praises only not to appear stupid. somewhat like the citizens in the fable of Kings New Clothes - no one dared to point out that the king was dressed in next to nothing.

it starts off with around 3 minutes of grand chamber music set to a black blank screen. yes 3 minutes of nothing but blackness with some good music.

then we follow a bunch of men in monkey suits jumping up and down, fighting, getting eaten by a leopard etc. after about 5 minutes of this animal planet footage, we are shown a big black polished tile planted in the earth and the chimps trying to understand what it is. then a chimp discovers how to use a bone as a weapon, destroys a skeleton lying nearby, throws its new weapon into the sky and its transformed into a spaceship, instantly transporting you to the future.

a group of scientists talk about discovering a black monolith buried in moon and how they have to spread rumours of a epidemic to divert attention from it. then a few men go to the excavation site on the moon. when they are about to click a pic, a high piercing sound emits from somewhere.

next scene 6 months ahead, we are in a spaceship on its way to jupiter. its manned by 2 men, 3 hibernating scientists and an intelligent talking computer "HAL" that runs the ship and talks to the men.

HAL turns out to be imperfect and the 2 men decide to disconnect it to avoid any disaster due to HAL error. HAL finds out and takes preventive measures. it manages to kill one of the men by letting him loose in space with a cut air hose. the other guy goes out to fetch the body and HAL refuses to let him in. it also kills the hibernating scientists.

the guy manages to come back in by an emergency hatch and proceeds to take out the memory pods of a protesting and pleading HAL. while on that job he comes across a video explaining the reason for their mission.

when he is back in control, he continues to jupiter.

when he nears jupiter, he spots a black monolith orbitting the planet. he enters jupiter's atmosphere and the screen turns into psychedelic colors like someone on an LSD trip. (maybe i am suppossed to say "Oh Man! trippy! awesome! ")

after 10 minutes of viewing a windows screensaver, he finds himself in a well furnished room. he sees an old man eating something. the oldman finishes eating, turns and sees another old man dying in bed. the dying old man suddenly sees the black monolith stone standing in front of his bed.

suddenly the old man turns into a foetus and flies across space.

the end.

the end credits are followed by another three minutes of black blank screen with fabulous background music (remember the beginning)

i had the following questions in the end:

whats with the monkeys in the beginning?
whats that black monolith?
why did those guys on the moon hear the loud whistle when about to click a pic of the monolith.
did they make it to jupiter?
whats that psychedelic effects supposed to mean?
whats with the old men?
what happened in the end?
why did I waste 299/- in buying this VCD?

i then turned to wikipedia for help and got to understand a few things that went on.

i would bow to anyone who tells truthfully that he/she understood what this screwed up screenplay and story meant. they should also prove they arent lying and havent understood the film, courtesy various interpretations on the net.

now for the positives:

great visuals. the classical chamber music in the background was spot on and awesome. i bet lot of people were blown while watching on big screen.

the space scenes were very realistic esp the lack of background music in some scenes in outerspace.
