It depends on the vehicle. If its in the running series, you have to pay approx 10% of the vehicle value. If not in series they it will cost you around 20-30K.

P.S: This was 2-3 yrs back

My fav number is 2727, both 2 and 7 are my lucky numbers

When enquired for getting the same for my Sparky dealer said it would cost me 25K.

I have ## ## ## 3667 on my Spark now

Dont trust a dealer. Walk down to your RTO (in Kerala) and check the status of numbers available on the kiosks.

I have seen a HH Splendor with the reg no KA 05 EX xxxx. The guy had got the reg no written continuously on the front plate. He had also tweaked the no 5 to look like an S.

The result = KA-0SEX-xxxx

Usually you can choose any number from the days starting number till the next 1000 numbers apart from the vanity numbers that the RTO would have signed against in the register.

For two wheelers the amount charged is 2500, for cars less than 5L its 4000, cars more than 5L and less than 10L its 8500 and for cars more than 10L its 13000.

I paid Rs.8500 for 4114. Everyone is entitled to inspect the register, the touts and the RTO usually act up and will not let you look at the same to create a demand for some numbers. You have to talk your way through them and if possible scare them.

This is how it works in The Nilgiris, however I don't think its the same procedure everywhere.

9 would have fetched much more but if you read carefully again, politics was involved. Do not feel pissed off, you need to be alive to enjoy the special number.

Maybe this is why they get going with their nonsense. The person who picked up that number 9 is the son of a minister and a well known dreaded goon.

Just the other day I saw this number in Pune : MH12 XX3456 and it was written on the number plate in this fashion :

MH XX
12 3456

Maybe not a 'special' number but it sure was interesting.
