Samurai's link says that you're just a shortened/pet form of Robert. "Robert" allegedly means bright fame.

On the other hand, the link also says that "This name can also be given in reference to the red-breasted bird"

Seems like I'm the only one here who's name is Alok. Alok means light. I think it is a bengali name, but i'm telugu... lots of people find that hard to believe for some reason though. It seems I was named what I was because everyone else in my family have names which mean light in some form or the other :P.

Godspeed.

Alok.

Bengalis choose very nice Sanskrit names for their children. Which is why a lot of Sanskrit names are often mistakenly referred to as Bengali names.

My name is Hrishikesh which comes from 'Hrishika' + 'eesha'. 'Hrishika' means senses, 'eesha' means master or lord and therefore, Hrishikesh is the master or controller of senses, who is Vishnu.

The correct English spelling should probably be Hrisheekesh for proper pronunciation.

For the Sanskrit afficionados,
Hrisheekaanaam eeshaha iti Hrisheekeshaha

I've always felt it unfortunate that Bengalis sometimes mispell or mispronounce the beautiful names they choose (absolutely no offence intended)
