is photoshop cs the only recommended software for these kind of digital modifications or are there any basic ones which would be easier to start of with??

Well ...paint is good to start of with....I have done a huge number of sketches on paint. Then shifted to Photoshop and flash. If u master paint...that is, learn to use the limited tool set to full effect , then that must propell u towards higher spheres for sure, slowly. Being good on paper helps too. All the best...Kudos to ur interest buddy!cheers:

If you want to go up step up, try Gimp..Its cool and its free...just google for it.

hey torqueguru just downloadede gimp though am yet to use it. regarding your advice to start on paint do you recommend starting a image from scratch or tweaking a ready made image. would help if you could post the work you have done on paint.

ps saw you conceptx. was awesome.
