Redbull has launched a cola that I really want to try. Unlike other colas available on the market it is all natural. I really want to try it but I believe its only available in the US as of now.

Martinis are delicious. One tip for people like me that would order Martinis like James Bond - Shaken not stirred. It isnt the correct way to make a Martini. Shaken not stirred bruises the drink and makes the ice mix a lot more with the rest of the drink which isnt really what you want. A shaken martini will lose out on clarity and taste but will be a lot more chilled.

1. All time college favourite that is RumsUp, of which the original has to be Old Cask Rum + Thumsup.
2. White Rum + Tender Coconut Water. A bit difficult to get because TC Water is not readily available, but where available this is a heavenly combination.

Fermented Beverages

Like any self-respecting Mallu (and a lot of converts like TSK), Kallu a.k.a Toddy is an all time favourite that you dont need an excuse to drink.
Old monk & Thumsup!Amazing combo! Same with the white rum & coconut water.. In fact,I mentioned the same to my brother just yesterday. He's never tried it,and its on his list of 'to-do' things when he visits India this year.

As for the kallu..something nice & spicy (thottu-nakkaan) gives it the right twist!

Old CASK and not Old Monk. Old Cask is popularly known in Kerala as OCR - you dont go to a bar and ask for rum, you ask for "Voziyaar".

Old Monk doesnt give the same RumsUp taste. Trust me on this one - we've done years of research.

Oops..sorry.I read it wrong. I love Old Cask too, though I've probably had very little of it. Its always been gallons & gallons of Old Monk. My apologies,Steer.

Voziyaar? How did that name come about?

I guess it needs to be fresh, more than the Kallu being cold. Since the Kallu ferments in no time,it has to be consumed within 24hrs (??). Its not diluted,so its usually consumed more in quantity.

Sam!
There's no special way/method for it. You make your own rules with it as the locals do here.
It is best had with Kappa (not the Infinity ones) and fried sardines and chillies or prawns. The roasted pearlspot fish which is a special south kerala dish is the favourite for many as the side kick.

But there is a BIG problem.
As far as I've heard, they don't serve it to people who doesn't look like Keralites. Or atleast, like an Indian. I haven't seen them serving a Yeti till date. They sometimes serve it to some wierd men who have a Mallu Gf/wife. In your case, nothing apply. So, it is better you drink Brandy like you always do in God's own country.

If you want more advice on this, then get in touch with our in house KALLU specialist, Steeroid. And the useless Chowdhari from UP who got drunk just by seeing a bottle of it.
