Let me know when you're coming down the next time. Keep a day (or two) free for a few toddy-bar visits.

Toddy bars are not very glamorous - see pics on this thread:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/671779-post1.html

but the food and drink will blow your brains away. EDIT: something like this:

haha...good one,MaserQ.
I want to make it a point to feel 'priceless' the next time I reach Kerala. Not had a chance to indulge in the Kallu much..

Steer,do all the Kallu shops (rather, shaaaps) serve fairly good appetizers/food? Love the pic, with all the Kerala parota & the meat!

We generally do not have to go to the Kallu Shaapu since we get fresh bottles of kallu (on the sweeter side) right from the coconut tree - a few of our neighbours are licensed "chethukar". If you can get some that way - that would be the best.

Few things are wrong in this shot Santosh:

Camera angle is wrong. It should have been frontal and low.

Time of day is wrong. That warm orange glow is missing from you.

Somebody's is not there behind you.

No one here likes Pastis?
I've become a big fan of Ricard ever since a friend bought back bottles from France
Oh and guiness draught is awesome.
Favorite cocktails would be a well made Mojito and LITs.
Among liquor available in India, KF and Teachers.

Exactly how I loved 'kallu' in its pure sense. From the toddy shops, you have 99% of getting adultered stuff. They use kind of white powder diluted in water added to small quantity of 'kallu' which will taste the same but alcoholic (and chemical) content more and dangerous to health.

Sad I am not settled in Kerala. Most of my relatives had their palm or coconut trees in their property which used to be given on 'lease' agreement to these toddy tappers. Each day owner gets his share based on a percentage of the total quantity. If owner do not drink, money is paid end of the month. What you get straight from the tree is amazing and not comparable to any drink in the world. Its 100% pure and natural and never stinks. I am sure some of the bhpians will have own sources or connections to get this way. Help Help Help cheers:

Blame camera skills on that drunkard iraghava! He was behind me.

The warm orange glow comes only with good whiskey.

Had a fun grilling grilling session on Saturday. I got some really fine rum from the West Indies, and it coupled well with some fruit juice. Almost like a Rum punch.
And there was some Canadian whiskey with soda, that was a treat with the tandoori chicken that I grilled.
