Default Honour - A mockery in India

Read the following article in Rediff on the recent passing away of Field Marshal Manekshaw.

If you have to die, do so around Delhi or Mumbai

Shows in India you have to buy respect.

If there is already a topic on the person, can the moderators, please merge this one.

I agree, if only he took over the country when did have the opportunity!

It is shocking that no one made it a point to honour him in person.

I agree with you bharanidharang. It was unbelievable that many of them did not make their presence for a human being who did our nation proud. Bad, real bad.

A crying shame. Indeed well written and eye-opening. My respects to Sam "The Bahadur" Maneckshaw.

Says a lot about the character or the lack of it of our so called leaders.

He was a great man and my sincere respects to our late Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw. May his soul rest in peace.

had the politicians listened to the army - the country would have been numero uno. Instead, vice-versa happened

If these same politicos would have come to him then they would be accused of grabbing a photo opportunity, of toadying up to a hero to garner public approval. This, also, may be true, of course.

Angry Rip

I suppose there was no mileage to be derived out of Sam Maneckshaw's death for all there politico infidels

If it was a corrupt politician or some dumba** filmstar, all these top leaders would've definitely made it to the funeral.

Its really a sad day. Even in death the Govt doesn't respect the greatest hero we ever had.

RIP

Isn't it better for that man, if these good-for-nothing leaders don't show up to shed crocodile tears?

Anyway, Field Marshal was and will remain one of the most respected and lovable figure in minds of millions of Indians for years to come. He has secured his place in the history. That is far more valuable and honorable than some corrupt worthless politicians coming over to pay tribute. I am rather happy that none of them didn't turn up.

I read that, it was Field Marshal's desire to be cremated in a private function.
