Scope would be best discussed offline as it varies widely based on the organisation/industry you get into. PM me if interested.

As for qualifications, non-technical roles usually give precedence to what you know practically rather than what certificates you have, as operations is dependent hugely on a good understanding of the organisation's overall business, not just one or two specific areas.

I'm a B.E. graduate myself and been in Biz Ops roles for nearly a decade now, so your formal education isn't a deal-breaker to get in, as long as you're capable.

Opportunities vary depending on your capabilities to assimilate information and experience, and you need to keep an open mind when looking to progress in roles like this. A beginner will usually be expected to do the tedious leg-work to gain understanding, and it can sometimes feel trivial (the story is no different on the tech side either). Remember the Karate Kid movies and Mr. Miaggi's training methods? It's something like that. Paint, scrub and polish until you know it like the back of your hand.

Your biggest asset will be your ability to keep you eyes, ears and mind open, because you can learn a lot from stuff around you that isn't your day-to-day job. The better your holistic understanding of your environment, the better you'll be at Biz Ops. One added advantage is you won't be limited to any single industry for future options, as Ops is a critical function everywhere and opportunities are limited only by how good you are.

About the MBA, my opinion would be to hold off until you actually have an idea of what you really want to do. I know it seems like you already do, but trust me your perspective might change after you've had some actual experience. It's far better to nail down an area of interest, get some hands-on experience and then get a specific MBA to enhance your skills. MBA is practically useless without hands-on experience (I still think I have a few years to go before I'll be ready for mine, maybe never if I don't see the value add). My opinion only and YMMV, of course

Job market scenario looks pretty bleak.

Am in the lookout for a decent move from my existing company and unfortunately no good calls!!

Fellow brothers from HR, whats the actual scenario?
How much longer will this lull continue.

BTW, I am from the hospitality sector and in a senior role in Sales, Strategies & Marketing
