There is only one constable in Surat for bomb disposal named Ms.Jesing Patel and he was wearing his Kevlar dress..It was the guys who were assisting him were in plain clothes, IMHO they should also be wearing proper Kevlar dressing..

I dont think anyone is stupid enough to accompany a Bomb Squad specialist in plain clothes. The pictures shown on the TV are of the bombs which are already defused and part of it is to be taken to labs or use it as evidence in their investigation. Thats where you see them along.

Thats just the outer covering. Seen one of the diffused bombs in Bangalore. They have ball bearings arranged in order on the top. Below that is a layer of nails and other stuff. Below that is the explosive material, in this case Ammonium Nitrate. This is connected to a fuse inside along with a timer.

The covering is to hold the ball bearings and other sharpnel in place. They are not stuck to anything but placed all around and covered using the plastic or paper sheet.

Total 23 bombs were found in Surat. Now I hope the internet grapevine of packs of 25 bombs turns out to be false.

Why the Surat bombs didn't explode

"Surat bombs were different from those used in Ahmedabad as those which exploded in Ahmedabad had timers while those in Surat had the integrated circuit chips," the sources added.

The Directorate of Forensic Science, after detailed analysis of unexploded bombs, said it has been found out that the programming of the integrated circuit chips in the bombs were faulty due to which they did not explode, sources in DFS in Gandhinagar said.

Its matter of time before the bugs in the IC chips are fixed

I don't buy that. Unless they were programmable chips and were programmed wrongly by the terrorists.

If it was a simple timer chip there is very little chance they will go wrong.

Exactly. Something is fishy here. Also of the 16 odd bombs diffused, some were in totally unpredictable places like behind a tree or a hoarding or so. Something just does not sound right here.

Initially it was thought that Gujarat Government had planted these bombs, so no bomb exploded. But when they managed to find two cars loaded with explosives and once the culprits were caught, they admitted that they had planted bombs.

Mostly they could wrongly progarmmed the chips. The Banglore blasts also had IC chips. Moreover, general awareness is also repsonsible for quickly realizing the presence of bomb.
