what lenses do you wear? What's the refractive index and weight approximately?

Do you wear contact lenses too?if so which make and form?Do they feel nice?I gave up on them after a few days, just didn't feel comfortable.
HL Honestly I don't remember! Being a clumsy person I don't go for big brands. I try to go for decent budget High index ones. Weight usually is more for the frame and hence I choose a shell frame. Reason being strength, rigidity of the lens fixtures in a full frame and the light weight. I am sorry I am not of much use to you. Will pm you if i remember anything more. :banghead:
Contact lens - Never tried! I just am too used to the glasses now! People don't recognize me without glasses

Hello everyone,

I just visited maxivision hospital branch at hitec-city. They did all tests and confirmed that i am eligible for LASIK. My sight readings are -7 right and -6.25 left. My sister underwent LASIK 3 years back which costed her around 45k. She is perfectly fine now with out any further corrections to her sight. However i was suggested bladeless option which costs around 1.25 lakh :O . When i asked about the normal operation cost. The consultant was giving me all the negative feedback saying that many would develop dry eyes soon by choosing the blade option. He also said since my sight is high i should only go for bladeless option.

I am clueless on whether to believe him or not. Could you please suggest

Also, please suggest if i should check elsewhere like L V prasad or Vasan eye care.

Thanks

Got my LASIK surgery done from L V Prasad. Underwent Femto LASIK procedure which costed me 80,000 . Routine rest for two days and i am good to go. Apart from slight burning sensation while surgery for about a few seconds did not feel any discomfort. Moreover, the doctor constantly telling me the remaining seconds definitely helped me.

I am happy that, finally i could see the world without lens/spectacles. Would definitely recommend it for anyone who are eligible. It has been a habit to search for my spects as soon as i wake up in the morning, still doing the same .

Thanks

Got mine done in April 2012 from Devi eye hospital, Koramangala, Bangalore.
Cost - 36k. Power - ~6 dioptre in both eyes. Been 4 and a half years and absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I am contemplating lasik. However my dads retina specialist recommended that around 35 years of age its not a practice to perform lasik as very soon cataract might develop. He says cataract is becoming very common amongst the middle age of 35 to 45 so why get into lasik now.

I'm anyways going for a check up on Saturday.

Blade Procedure costs 40k and Bladeless is 80k here in Mumbai.

Yes, what your doctor says is correct. Couple of years back my wife wanted to do the same, but the counselling officer warned us that beyond 32 there is no point in doing that (shelling out 50K for couple of years might not be worth it). She even said that its better if the person is around 25 years of age - so we dropped it.

Whenever I go to my eye doctor in order to check my eyes, he always recommends me to go for LASIK. One thing I noticed was that he himself wears spectacles but he is definitely above 40 years of age which implies that LASIK is not that useful for someone above 35/40 years of age?

I am 28 years old and am still thinking if I should go for LASIK. Can people guide me here? Should I go for it?

I got LASIK done at 35, I am 44 now and no problems at all. In fact I have better distance vision than most around me usually.

I'm with @patron...with one caveat: never trust someone who doesn't take his own advice! This is why going to a fat dietician is a bad idea, for example

I got it done at 25 because I got sick of seeing the world as a dull blur every time I woke up in the morning. Was warned (correctly) that my corneal thickness predicted some residual number but went ahead anyway. In my early 40s I now have around (-1,-1.75- spherical only) vision which is perfectly acceptable for someone with ridiculously high spherical AND cylindrical power. It's been good!

While getting LASIK done at any age less than 40 yrs will help to cure you of the specs that you have been using, of course it is not a guarantee that you won't develop far sightedness with age (Presbyopia). It increases with age starting at about 40 yrs.

Even then you won't have an issue with reading far away objects (the problem that people with a minus number face). So just keep that in mind if you are opting for LASIK

Hello everyone, I am 33 and considering LASIK. My power is -9.0 (stable for last 5 years) in both eyes and I normally wear lenses. Could anyone please refer me to a trused LASIK doctor / clinic, someone who is experienced and has the best technology. I live in Mumbai (Andheri west to be precise but the distance is not too much of an issue provided it is within the city). Also, which form of LASIK should I go for? Should I wait for some better technology or go for LASIK now? My current eye doctor keeps recommending I use eye drops for eye dryness but I invariably just buy 1 month worth and give up. How much worse would the dryness get post LASIK? (I hear it gets worse cause the eye nerves / tear ducts are cut)

I can give you three options in no particular order, all of them are reputed ophthalmologists with the latest equipment. Please get the addresses online.

1. Dr. Ashok Shroff (Shroff Eye) at Bandra West.
2. Dr. Keiki Mehta (International Eye Institute) at Colaba.
3. Dr. Cyres Mehta (International Eye Institute) at Colaba.
No. 2 and 3 are Father and Son who practice separately.

The exact treatment/procedure which is best for you would be decided by the Doctor after an examination of your eyes.

Whichever Doctor you choose to go to (if you are driving) go with someone else as they put some drops in your eyes to dilate your pupils before the examination which will blur your vision for around 2/3 hours.

All the best.
Cheers
