The first one was shot around Malampuzha dam/forest area in Palakkad/Kerala and the second one just about 2 kilometers from my home in Palakkad.

Default A favourite tigress from Tadoba

One of the most interesting encounters I have had. This is P2, who had killed and (partially) eaten a woodcutter a few months before I took this shot.

Great capture! Who would say, looking at that regal countenance that she would resort to what she did - on the one hand tiger protection (including habitat

protection) has been gathering momentum over the recent past. While on the other, encroachment into reserved forests is bringing predator/human

confrontation closer by the day. That video of a leopard lifting a dog from the lobby of a condo in the bustling Borivili suburb of Mumbai (adjacent to Sanjay

Gandhi national park), and which went viral on the net a couple of years ago, brought home this point like nothing else. Culling of animal populations (e.g.

kangaroos & wallabies in Australia) is a socially accepted remedy for over-population of particular species.

Is it too far-fetched to say that culling of other species (not too far removed from our own) may not be too far in the future?

It was a one-off incidence, perhaps she mistook a crouching human for some other prey.

Anyway, a couple of photos from your (and my) favourite country. You are lucky to stay so close to the mountains

Both the photos - spell binding as yours usually are - really capture the essence of this part of God's country! The horse grazing on the hill-side takes you right out of this world into Magonia! And to think that tho' we head for it at every opportunity, have never seen it as seen through your lens. I shall bear it in mind & treat this region with even more respect than hitherto.

I just wish that the blighters at the concerned ministries (forest & environment) in the state see the light & stop the promoters & developers (largely Delhi-based) from ravaging the countryside/hillsides with condos & apt. complexes.
