Sand Flower

This is not a man made sculpture.
We got this in one piece from one of our construction sites in Saudi Arabia, while excavating at around 7 meter depth.
This is fine sand solidified due to prolonged presssure and heat, probably under the earth for hundreds of years and became such a wonderful flower bouquet.

thank rudra, thankfully the leaves are still there. will try it.

I shot it late in evening, so low light and window glass relfections were creating problems.

PS: it's not DOF issue, the leaves were shaking violently, only the trunk was stationary.

I guess I was convincing myself .
There were a couple shots which were giving a false impression of shallow DOF.

@Venkatesh.C - Thanks, It is not OTB (here i am presuming OTB to be 'Out of The Box') played around slightly with the curves, but the OTB looks close to what I have posted. About the composition, i'll try next time, it would look good IMO too.

Torqy,

Although your image has some amazing color effect, it can't be called as good composition. You have to include other elements to the image to make it more compelling. Look at the images the follow yours, their sky is less dramatic than yours, but they are much better compositions since they have included lot more elements to acheive a much better result. Don't ignore the background or foreground, they can always provide the contrast that can breath life into your image, the last image by guyonblackybx is a good example of that.

Samuraiji,

Although i do agree with your concepts of composition, i do also think that there is more than just one universal aesthetic.

Torqy's photo is more like an "abstract painting", whereas most of the other pictures in this thread are like "landscape paintings" etc. .. ie my opinion.

ps - Torqy, i loved the very first 2 pictures you posted in this thread (candid people in a feild / woman on beach.. or something like that). They had a certain "stock photo" quality (thats a compliment in this case )...almost like you would see them on corbis or gettyimages.
