Ok, the image has now been resized to 500x333. My mother was just waking up from sleep and I tested the borrowed 70-300mm lens on her.

It is the chenda,jk. As for my pics,I haven't been able to play around with them. The flower (with the cobwebs) is part of the aloe vera plant. I wasn't able to get it into focus,no matter what I tried.
Guess I need to remove that picture..

Try manual focusing the subject. I think this is is common when you have some many overlapping subjects.

The one on the top is definitely Orion and the one on the bottom is probably Canis Major. I am not very sure 'bout that one.

and before anyone gets any ideas...these remain untouched by photoshop!
(primarily because i can't operate the damn thing!)

fyi - these are all shot on a canon eos 30d with different lens setups. i have no hangups about using digital vs film. i enjoy both equally and stand firmly in the camp that each of the formats have their own place and space in photography.

for amateurs like ourselves - filming nice looking images is where its at!!

Nice pics,avinash!
Loved the pic of the sunrise. I had taken a similar pic way back in 1997,enroute to London. Managed to lose the pic though..

Avinash, the shots are somewhat lacking in composition. All the ground shots have very busy background that is distracting. The aerial shot is soft, but has nice colors though. You have good equipment, but that will only address the technical part of the photograph.

thanks nitin, funnily enough the sunrise shot(s) are all taken on the way to london as well!

many thanks for the critique as well samurai - appreciated. yeah the sunrise is soft, i was fiddling around with camera still on autofocus, half asleep while trying to get as many clean shots off, within the slim window of opportunity! finally switched to manual focus to pull off a couple of clean shots.

i enjoy this style of photography (especially faces and portraits) because i feel it potentially adds sometimes interesting layers to a photograph. i agree that it has a time and place though!!!

i'll upload a couple more done in the same vein in a bit.

cheers amigos.
