I'm aware of the feature of shutter priority, but is there a tele that needs to be added? My question is how to capture moon to so close vicinity?

You need to have something like 15x optical zoom in your P&S, or in a DSLR you need a telephoto lens in the range of about 400mm. To capture the moon, you don't need to expose for long. A hand held shot with a faster shutter speed like 1/500 can also capture a bright moon.

I have canon SX20IS with 20x optical zoom which can extend till 80x digitally.

The first was taken using a a tripod at an exposure of 15 seconds(max supported by my camera) in Manual mode.

The 2nd pic i.e. the moon one was taken hand held in Auto mode.

Here are 2 more moons shots taken on a full moon.

@Technocrat : Great shot! Unbelievable that you used a P&S to achieve that result! Sadly I only have a 3X optical zoom :P

@harmon bro : Great drama in that shot! What camera you used for the shot?

OT : I'm becoming increasingly tired of P&S's. I'm thus contemplating a big beercan. Have my eyes set on the EOS 450D. Will have to ask Rudra Sir for advice.

OT:
There are Sports Cars and then there are Souped up cars that want to be a Sports Car!

Now they may come close to matching a Sports Car at times, but at the end of the day a Sports Car is a Sports car!

I guess you get the point!

Praful, second you on that buddy.
At the end of the day, a DSLR is the grand dad of the P&S.

@Mods : Sorry for going severyly off topic. Please delete posts if deemed necessary.

But Rudra Sir is not that familiar with entry level models. Most Canon guys here will be able to help you out. Check the dSLR thread under gadget section.

Harmon, thats a brilliant and unique capture ! Both of your buddies are eligible for a ghost serial without an audition ! Have you done any PP to enhance the 'eyes' ?
