The watch in question has highly contrasting areas, you need to bring that out. Exposing to a light source upclose will smother it with light. I'll try to post an example later from home.

Edit: here is an old shot of my watch. The dark areas are not overexposed.

Here is an example for the spot metering I discussed in post#7819.

I shot this. This is something from my work place. I have to correctly expose the black scanner, and even show the correct colors of the 3 unlit lights in that area. So I spot metered the black scanner. The image below is shot as JPG, no PP done at all to correct anything. It was shot handheld in ISO400 using Olympus E-500 (no IS), so you might see some noise. See in full size to notice the color of the unlit LEDs. No other metering will work in this case.

Pramod I think samurai san is trying to tell, a student in photography is not supposed to use good watches. I will PM you my address !

Although bit late, here is my first attempt related to a stage event ! Still trying to learn the lighting basics.

Pramod,

This link will help you,

My Mother in Law and the Family of Angles (an Intro) | DIYPhotography.net

Understand the family of angles to understand light and reflection. By the way, the easiest way to improve that shot is to back light the watch. For example, Keep the watch so that the dial faces the lens, use your softbox directly as the background or use a white seamless paper as the background and just add a reflector in the front to highlight the rim. Other thing you could try is, just block the light that is hitting the glass top by using a gobo like a black card or something.

Thanks Hw! The evening sun is a very good high wattage light for photography
Multi-segment metering and didn't even touch the EV slider while converting from RAW.

Nice shot Clevermax, the warmth is in photo and composition.

Took one more shot of my watch. Man, it is really getting dirty.

Thanks clever, i knew all my pics needed as of now is your magic touch, Trust me i had no idea how to clean the glass, so what is did the overall pic looked bit overexposed so i reduced the exposure to -1. And as i said all this was to see how the new softbox works. We need to spend some time together. Lets plan sometime.

@Clevermax : Great Shot! +1

2 Years Back : "Innocence was Bliss!"
As of today : "Innocence is BLING!"

@Samurai : Nice shot of the watch. Why don't you PP out the Purplish reflection from the band? It will look really nice the IMO.

Two from me.

I was riding pillion on my friend's bike, so there is absolutely no composition, and lots of noise. Posting just because I loved the colors. WB corrected.
