one from me too after a long gap...

A flood filled paddy field in kerala.
Did you take those pics? Looks Photoshopped... the model is not really standing in water, her saree is not wet. Either that or your a pro. In anycase, the lighting on the model is simply superb.

tifosi:

Nice pic. I think photographers get trigger happy during Indian monsoon. It offers so many scenic views.

Tifosi: Love the composition in the first one...says a lot!

Mayavi: Accepted if you are driving a ferrari and Schumacher is drivin a Kia Rio, you would beat him if it's a straight lined track but I think otherwise if it's a F1 track. Ever seen Ansel adams' work? check it out! I guess he didnt have any hi-fi equipment then. Do check the pic by Rudra sir which was taken in a restaurant, that was taken by a cell phone too.

Shot this pic with a Fuji FinePix S5100.
didnt use any photshop tool for this, just reduced the size in mspaint.

just shot it in manual mode.
Didnt bother to note down the shutter speed nor aperture.

I am pretty sure Ansel Adams used different kinds of films for different types of scenes. He was afterall doing commerical work for kodak trying out their new films.
Tell me, do you think a Ansel Adams or a Harry Callahan would have been able to take color pictures with a black and white film? The answer to that question should explain what I am trying to get at. No doubt you can take the occasional good pic/keeper with a cheap camera, but you need good gear to do that everytime.

No offense, but you have it reverse. Equipment/technology can only take you some distance, after that it is up to the individual's talent. Even if you have the finest camera money can buy, a better composer can out do you with a P&S. Better cameras give very fine control over the exposure, but they can't compensate for the lack of composition skills. The composition is still completely manual and left to photographer's skill.

Checkout the image below, very creative composition. But it could have been shot using a normal P&S.

Here are a few that I've taken:

Droplets of water on windscreen:

Lonely boat and a lonely tree:

Walking down the line:

Sunrise at a beach:

Lastly, a crazy picture indicing the power of psychology. This cow just has to be tied to anything, doesn't matter how small, it just stands there and never tries to pull it. Observe the small plant (or grass) that it is tied to here!
