Default How safe are these Fire extinguishers?

I happen to visit the HMT Bhavan near Mhekri circle yestuerday with my friend. While he was busy with the IT guys I was roaming around the building. I noticed that there are 3 fire extinguishers in each floor near the stairs.

I was curiously reading those instructions and when I read the refill date, I was like

It reads that last fill was in Apr 2007 and the next due was Apr 2008.

Its not just one, but all the 3 I saw had same fate. The next 3 in below floor also had same sticker.

Now, what good are these if they are not maintained?

I wont be surprised if it was "filled as per the records" and has such fate in reality.

I have the pic of it. Will post it shortly.

So, why this thread?

Is there any complaint cell where we can inform about these. If I had known some responsible department or people who are suppose to take care of this, I would have informed them. But I agree that it may make no diff, but still.

Have you faced such situation? If so, what would be the next course of action? Can we just inform to the nearest fire station?

Please pour in your thoughts.

Usually the water based need refill everyyear since the chemical used with water while refilling looses its reactive ability and is not able to generate that preassure for optimal usage during fires.

You can give a written complaint to the Area Fire station, addressing it to the highest ranking person available there, rest will be upto them, if they want to take any action or not. These fall under their purview.

Oh believe you me, action they will take. After the Delhi Cinema fire incident (and the resultant imprisonments), local fire departments have started putting a lot of heat on local business'. They have a set of standards which MUST be adhered to. I don't know how things are in Bangalore, but Mumbai offices are visited periodically by a fire official who manually checks the safety equipment you have on board.

Does it hold good for govt buildings too?
I am asking this because, we all know how well these departments go well together.

but still I appreciate that something productive is going on. Cheers.

@mjothi usually the fire wardens in each floor must be informed or the admin has to be notified. As the saying goes better be safe than sorry
