Anyone here who has used or knows someone who has used Amway Nutrilite products during pregnancy. My wife has been prescribed Amway Nutrilite pregnancy kit which consists of vitamin tablets, iron-Folic acid tablets and protein powder just as a suppliment during pregnancy. Is it advisable to take them during pregnancy ? The doctor is an expert with years of experience and working in a very reputed hospital, but when it comes to a prescription like this, I just want to make sure it has got no side effects and whether can be avoided if a good intake of veggies and fruits are there. I'm mostly concerned whether the protein powder can increase the foetal weight ? Thanks in advance.

Is the Doctor also a dealer for Amway?

Its my strong belief that good wholesome food trumps all supplements.

Not a dealer, but gave the contact of a friend of her. Indirect gain may be.

Dear experts,
The patient in question is my mother - Age - 55, Height - 163cm, Weght - 63 kgs (Consistent from last 2 years)

From last 10 months she is having fever lasting 7 days with an interval of 21-25 days (ie fever start date - start date)

All the necessary tests are done and most of the physicians are clueless for this repetitive nature of fever.

Tests done -

- CBC
- ESR
- Lipid profile
- Blood sugar (Fasting and 2h pp)
- LFT
- Serum electrode and LDH
- Serum vit D3
- Serum vit B12
- Abdomen and Pelvic USG
- Mammography
- Urine routine
- Pap smear was not done coz of uterus removal operation (2001)
- Stool routine
- Blood culture
- T3, T4 and TSH
- Chest x-ray
- ECG and stress test
- Rapid malaria test

My current physician is presuming that it is happening because of menopause. However, I am finding it difficult to understand how the same fever trend is persistent from last 10 months.

No weight loss has been observed. She looks fit and healthy and doctors saying we have suggested every possible test.

Only positive notes are - Vit D3 deficiency (in a range of 10.6), Vit B12 deficiency (border line) and calcium

Other than this there are no issues found with the aforesaid test results.

@sajusherief - If you ask me I would advice your wife take iron and vitamin b complex and folic acid supplements as diet alone cannot suffice them.as demands are increased during pregnancy
Also there is no need for buying that amyway nutrilite as you can get them separately that too from good company at far lower cost.

Any physiotherapists/orthopaedic docs here??

I am having a tough time with levator scapulae dyskinesis.
It came on suddenly with pain in my shoulder with numbness running down my fingers since sept13.After seeing a few docs i finally ended up with someone who diagnosed it as mentioned above.I have pain with internal rotation on right side only.I also have a little droop of my right shoulder.

I work a lot on the computers and as such it has started to cause pain, discomfort in my neck, trap area and even my face all of it on right side only.

I have been doing isometric exercises which help but as soon as am back on the pc am down with pain.I have tried posture correction, adjustment of chair, elbow support etc.

Prior to this i was working out continuously for past four years and had a good built however since this mess i haven't worked out a single day and have lost a lot of muscle mass causing me to even feel embarrassed.

I need a remedy to this.whatever it may be as i am sick of this to the extent where i have started to hate my existence.
'
Advice welcomed.

Check for Rheumatiod Arthritis. In early stages one can get fever and joint pains. Also very difficult to get a confirmation on Blood Tests.

Just a thought!

Stay Safe!

God Bless!

Need urgent help . How do I calibrate glucometer ? My father is diabetic and depends on glucometer for his insulin intake . We got a random blood sugar done at a hospital today morning , the lab result showed 320 and the glucometer showed 280 . There is a huge difference and hence we are facing a lot of trouble . The glucometer is imported and it has no tech support in India . Can anyone recommend a good glucometer ?

@Girimaji,
I have a Johnson & Johnson glucometer, they have been responsive to any service requests. If you had one of these, then you could have called their helpdesk number to get a check done with the control solution.

For the unit you have, please check if the strips are within the usable window (typically 3 months or 6 months after opening the box).

What you are suffering from sounds like what we call 'Mechanical Back pain'. But before confirming this and to rule out any serious causes of back pain, you will need certain investigations. At the very least an X ray of your back and some blood tests, especially looking at CBC, Calcium, uric acid levels etc. If you have pain radiating to one or both legs, you may need a MRI scan, no need for scan otherwise.
Once this has been done and other causes ruled out, what you need is a short term course of anti-inflammatory medications and muscle relaxants for 2-3 weeks. You need to combine this will regular practice of exercises for the back. In fact the back exercises are the most important thing, more than medicines, to keep the muscle spasm at bay and to give you relief.
The pain and stiffness in your back is due to muscle spasm, which happens due to prolonged sitting on your bike, bad roads might not help. The muscles on either side of the spine has to work extra hard and repeated straining causes them to over compensate and then go into spasm. This usually is worst first thing after walking up and in the evenings at the end of the day.
You might not see immediate benefits with exercises, hence it needs to be done religiously for atleast 3 weeks or more, twice a day, and then continue this and make it a part of your daily routine.
I am sure you will start seeing the difference if you do this.
I am more than happy to give links and more information regarding specific exercises for the back if you want me to.
Hope this helps.

Regards

Dr Vinod Kumar

Thanks a lot . I will en-quire about this. I checked the expiry date and it was ok till 2015. The one I have is called contour from Bayer and that particular model is not available in India. I tried calling their numbers , but there was no response. Have you ever faced a situation where the lab results and your glucometer readings were different ? My doctor advised me to get the glucometer calibrated every 3 months.

I just referred the user manual and it says no coding required , meaning there is no need to calibrate it. I am totally confused now.

The diabetic levels are too high. First visit a physician to get the levels under control asap.
