My Wife(63 years) complains about her excessive craving for food and frequent snacking. She is non-diabetic and has a practiced of drinking around 2-3Ltr of water per day..Her major worry is about impending weight gain and associated problems.
How to address this issue? Is it a medical problem?

Dentists on the forum - figured out few days back that there is a cavity on a tooth on the upper jaw. It isn't a cavity but a piece of the tooth has literally gone off!

I do not experience any pain there but after a meal, food particles get stuck in that cavity and after each meal, I have to chew a Happydent to get it out. And it does.

I am feeling really scared and nervous if the dentist would advise me to do a root canal treatment for that. Or is a cap enough? Please help - really feeling scared. I'm fixing an appointment to the nearby dentist next week.

More than the shopkeeper, you should be worried about the pesticides.

Hi all,

I need advice from an Orthopedician. My dad met with an accident last year and had multiple fractures in his right leg. He is an Osteoporosis patient and its at advance stage. A surgury was done last year itself and rods were put in his leg. Now after almost 16 months after the accident the bones still have not fixed properly. and he feels pain and the whole leg swells a lot if he travels. By travel i mean even a 100 kms journey as a passenger by car. I consulted an orthopedician in Max hospital Saket Delhi. And he suggested that the problem is not because of the bones. The rear portion of the bone is fixed though there is a gap in the front. And as per the doctor the problem Name: leg_shinsplints_anatomy01.jpg

Size: 41.4 KBis because the nerves are really weak which is causing the whole problem. I am really confused at this point. I was under an impression that he would have to undergo one more surgery and he should be fine after that. I can attach few X Ray images if that helps. I have tried to illustrate in the image.

Please upload x-rays for better understanding of case. Try to upload in sequence like pre-op (post injury) and then sequential.

Well, that is a cavity. Any hole in the teeth is a cavity, whether caused due to bacteria, or tooth piece breaking off.

So what happens now is, you get an X Ray done to see how far has the bacteria gone inside. If it is touching the gums or has infected the gums, then you would be advised for a root canal. If it is just dirty inside, they would clean and put a cap.

I do have similar thing in my mouth and have to use Happydent to get stuck food particles from there.

Oh, yes, I forgot to update everyone here.
I got the surgery done. Using the word surgery to define what was done in my mouth, would be an insult to the word surgery. It was a very small and simple procedure.
My wife gave me company and shot some nasty pictures of my mouth while the procedure was being done, just to make sure that an unsuspecting tooth was not pulled out.

So I went in and the first thing that the doc does is, give a small cap of liquid and asked me to rinse my mouth.
I realise that it is Clove solution, which made my entire mouth go slightly numb.
Then he injects anesthesia in the gum next to the affected tooth.

Then he puts lot of instruments in my mouth and tries to extract the wisdom out. Lots of ding-dong and breaking noise and a struggle for about 15 mins. Finally he got the tooth out.

He did put 3 stitches. Said that 1 is dissolvable and 2 would be removed after 5 days.
Gave me heavy painkillers and antibiotic. And recommended happy doses of ice cream and fruit juices.

2 days later, 2 stitches came off on its own. I hurried back to the clinic and they examined and said that the cut had healed and there was no need to put back the two stitches.

So I came back home hale and hearty. I am absolutely fine now. No pains, no sensation.

My next work is a root canal on one tooth and capping on another.

I really hope the dentist doesn't suggest root canal treatment! Iíve fixed an appointment for this Wednesday afternoon. Wifey would be accompanying me to lend me some courage and support. Previously dad used to and he was too good at it!

Iíve been told the root canal procedure has become a lot less complicated and painful nowadays. Only time will tell.

You sound so confident about the procedure now!

Anyways, best of luck and do update.

Glad to know about the successful procedure. Your post will help people not to be afraid of dentists. Fear of dentists just increases problems.

Nowadays? I think you are about fifty years out of date on root-canal treatment! For a long time, even having a tooth extracted [by a competant dentist who knows his anaesthesia] has not hurt. Root-canal stuff is much less invasive, and much less traumatic.

I am not a medical professional, just an experienced patient. Far too experienced!

Friends I need an advice from somebody who specializes in muscular pains.

This Saturday, while I was helping family to redecorate the house and reorganize some things, I had a sudden muscle pain in my right shoulder.

I was keeping a heavy box in the loft and as I just put it I knew something in my right shoulder has hurt.

My neck and shoulder and back have become stiff and when I am stretching out my right arm there is a movement of some nerve that I think is wrongly placed now (getting a sensation when I move my arm).

Any suggestions for medicines. I took a flexon night before and applied volini but not much help. Its difficult to sit in office right now. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated guys.

Thanks!

I take Cipzox 500 for any muscle pull related pains.
I pop in 1 tablet twice a day, for 1 day.

Thanks I will give it a shot. Hope its a generic pill and does not need a recommendation by a physician. The Chemist should be able to confirm. Thanks!
