Now, last month my left eye was a little red in colour. I didn't think much on this. Thought it is normal - body heat, not sleeping properly, stress, you name it kind of reasons. But then after couple of weeks the patch started growing bigger and one fine day my entire left portion of the left eye (left of pupil) turned blood red.
All these days I never felt any pain or uneasiness in my eye, save for the day when it became larger. I felt little pain on that day.

Meanwhile entire day I was reading about this on the web. That evening went to an eye hospital where they did some mundane checkups. Got my IOP checked and it was normal too - 15mmHg. My power was also normal (I don't wear any glasses - neither power nor reading).

The doctor had my eye tested and she dropped a bomb: she said that there is an internal bled for unknown reasons. Another bomb: suspecting glaucoma. For confirming this she wanted me to sit for a test, which I politely refused (I'm not sure whether all these are really required - please note that I'm not against doing any tests, but want to make sure that there is a genuine reason behind it).
Though I'm not qualified to comment on this but to me it seems that you should stop worrying about the glaucoma bit, as you don't have any symptoms and your eye is normal now. Moreover the IOP is normal too.
It may have happened due to a sudden rise in Blood Pressure that ruptured the vessel. I suggest you to keep a tab on your BP and consult a physician if its in the higher range.

:-) I drink a lot of water. I drink atleast 1.5-2.0 litres of water - I have done this right from my childhood - and not because of any chain email which claims that it will cure all diseases. The diet soda consumption is in addition to this.

The Orange-Juice-is-Bad-as-Coke Debate Rages On | Fooducate
It is a ad gimmick. forget it. In general any preserved food is not good in comparison to fresh food. Whatever the claims made by the companies, they have to add some or the other preservative.

II. Do not go by what is written on the net and news paper. Every thing has a commercial angel to it. they just want to make people believe and buy their product.
Example: Around 1999-2000, there were huge hoardings erected all around bangalore and huge ad campaign was undertaken to promote "low cholesterol egg". they were sold @ Rs 5 per egg when normal egg price was Rs 1.50. this was only in banglore. TOI even wrote it was due to a technology developed by IVRI (indian veterinary research institute) We in the profession knew it was bogus. after six month these low cholesterol eggs were withdrawn from market. At that time these eggs were sold in food world outlets.

Similalry in 70's and 80's huge campaign was undertake to promote soyabean oil as panacea for all ill's

Even the " an apple a day keeps doctor away " is also a part to promote/expand the market for apples. banana is much better fruit than Apple

The brown eggs being sold now a days as naughty eggs are in this category. In realty they are not. it is not possible to produce so many naughty(country bird) eggs.

Even the naughty chicken is also same. chicken are genetically bred for colored plumage(feathers). these birds are sold as naughty birds

Almost all the fruits and vegetables sold in the market are laced with some or the other ripening agent or preservative. ( this includes even the papaya, banana, apple etc)

try to wash an apple at home. water in general does not stick to apple. because some kind of wax is applied to make shining.

Those of you who have a garden at home try to grow brinjal. cook it and compare the cooking time and taste with brinjal from market.

To clarify go to post harvest technology departments of Agricultural colleges or ask near by Agriculture officer

Chemicals/ preservatives are added to rice, dal's and everything sold in the market to prevent infestation with various insects etc.

Cauliflower has one of the maximum pesticide sprays. unlike other vegetables we cant wash this off to the maximum

Moral is " DON'T GO BY WHAT IS WRITTEN IN NEWS PAPER'S OR TV AD'S." TRY TO EAT FRESH FARM PRODUCE AFTER THOROUGHLY WASHING IT.

Glaucoma need not have any symptoms in the initial stages (open angle glaucoma). The IOP need not be raised the entire time too, it can fluctuate through the day, moreover there is an entity called normal tension glaucoma wherein the IOP is never raised but still there are changes that occur, all these can be ruled out with a few tests if glaucoma is suspected. So do go ahead with the tests, cause the earlier it is detected the better. Any damage that occurs due to glaucoma is irreversible, we can only prevent further damage from occurring.

This is a question for a friend of mine.

She was fasting yesterday on account of Shivaratri.
By late afternoon she had swelling in her feet.
Swelling enough to make her slippers not fit correctly.
She fasts every year for Sivratri and this is the first time something like this happened.

What causes this?

This can be due to some renal(read kidney) problem where dehydration due to fasting precipitates a renal insufficiency. The kidneys are not able to work properly and the patient accumulates water. I would suggest a urine test and kidney function test and a urological consultation.

I am no expert in the medical field, but let me take a wild guess.

Did she indulge in a lot of salty snacks during her fasting ? High salt content causes water retention (bloating) in the body.

Help required.

Please help.

My mother has been diagnosed with a spinal problem at L1-L5 levels and the doctors here, at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant kunj and Primus Super Speciality, Chanakyapuri have advised a surgery of the spine.

People have been advising against getting operated due to the post operative complications involved.

Please advise whether surgery would entail any post surgery complications?

What kind of doctor should one visit for baldness? I am in my early 40s and in the last 1 year I have severe hair thinning above my forehead. I am OK with natural hair loss (age related) but just want to make sure it's not due to any other reason (fungus, some deficiency etc). I have started using ketacanazole shampoo 2% once a week.

But now I want to consult a doctor - but not sure what kind of doctor I should visit - a General practitioner or a Skin Specialist or someone else? I don't intend to go to a trichologist or whatver - it sounds like a made up qualification. Also not interested in alternate medicine.

You should go to a skin specialist!
They can prescribe hair regrowth treatments!

It will be a great deal of help if you could type out the MRI report ( the last bit). And also a short bit about the symptoms.
Thanks

They are Naati chickens, not naughty chicken. Naati is the Kannada word for country bred.
