Do not suffer any of the symptoms you've mentioned so I guess its ok.
Yes, around 500 ml mark is okay but make sure not to immediately lie down on the bed after meals. It predisposes to reflux.

Advice needed: Last couple of months, I have been affected by a new 'addiction'; I have started having tea without sugar or milk 6 times a day. By tea, I mean tea-bag kind (assam tea) which I dip in hot water. My question i-- is this addiction harmful for the liver and health in general?

The best Rheumatologist is in Fortis itself, Dr Ramesh Jois. Or you can even try Dr Uma Buggi at Apollo Clinic in Koramangala.

Both are good but Dr Ramesh Jois is highly rated by some of the people I know that have consulted him.

Makes a lot of sense. I am wondering how I can tactfully pass on this valuable advice to my wife .

Being a person who could eat sugar by the bagful and drink cream by the pint in between fatty meals without gaining one ounce of bodyweight makes it harder to say such things without seeming unkind, especially as she certainly does try re diet and exercise and is not otherwise overweight.

I accidently discovered I have hypochloridia (low HCL in stomach). Taking HCL supplements with food has resolved many of my general health problems for last 2 years. From what I have learnt human body naturally reduces HCL production with aging.

Having excess water will only make it worse (or create similar symptoms if you don't have it). The symptoms are similar to malnutrition because body can not digest and absorb nutrients. In fact one can often confuse hypochloridia with hyperchloridia (excess HCL) since both can cause GERD-like sensation.

With practice I have been able to reduce water intake around meal time, limited it to one glass of water. I hydrate myself pretty well at other times.

Keep in mind that for somebody with hyperchloridia it should be just the opposite, so proceed with caution.

I would not suggest drinking water along with meals. As per Ayurveda, it leads to increase in Weight.

Infact since last five years I am not drinking water 1 hour before & 2 hours after lunch & it was indeed helped my control my weight.
You can have alook at my before / after pictures in Weight Loss Thread.

Thanks,

Actually a lot of weight loss experts advice a glass of water just before meals! Water is without any calories and it gives you a partial fulfilment feeling that can help consume less food! I kind of agree with this reasoning!

If the goal is weight loss by malnutrition, sure. It's like cutting your diet and then diluting it in stomach. Not very healthy IMO.

Well cutting your diet does not necessarily mean malnutrition. In India we have wrong eating habits. A lot of people eat only 2 or 3 times a day and they try to eat lots whenever they eat. This is not a healthy thing.

If a glass of water can make you eat 3 parathas instead of 4 then I'd say its very good thing.

We might be going off topic here so let me explain just one more time. Cutting food is not the best solution without looking at everything else in life. A visually very obese person may very likely be suffering from low iron, calcium and other vital minerals and cutting food is not going to help. It will only make it worse. Every wonder why many diet plans fail in weight loss?

Cut fat, not food.
And then get some exercise.

vivek yes we are going off topic here so will stop. This discussion should happen in the weight loss thread.

Coming back to this thread, can people suggest some good pediatricians here in Bangalore, especially in/around Marathalli/Whitefield area? I have an appointment for our daughter with Dr Arvind Shenoy but he seems to work US style (appointment is after 15 days!)

Far from being offtopic, that is a very useful post. I've observed that some people can cut food and still out on weight. I'd heard various explanations, but didn't know that mineral deficiency could be part of the picture.

Yes Thad, the only thing an obese person has in excess is fat. Everything else is just as essential for their bodily functions and you don't want to cut off the supply .

In zeal for curing obesity, we might end up creating much worse problems.

Doc,

How normal is it to have blood tinge in sputum? After the patient vomited twice, may be due to food poisoning.
