Saw some movies after I moved from Bigflix to Showtime

1) Inception 5/5
Nolan should stop making Batman movies & just do these kinds of movies(Memento, Following, Prestige, Inception) - no one else in Hollywood can do these.

2) Due Date 4.5/5
Comedy - remake of the old "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" (steve martin). The remake has Robert Downey Jr & Zach Galifianakis. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

3) The Fighter 4/5.
Very good 1 time watch.

4) Little Fockers 4/5.
I like the whole series. General reviews for this last part aren't so good though.

5) Just Go with it. 2.5/5
Jennifer Anniston, Adam Sandler comedy
Nothing special.

6) No strings attached 2.5/5
Rom Com - Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman. Predictable

7) Kick-*** - Different kind of super hero movie 4/5
Really liked it. Silly story but lot of fun.
Very unpredictable if you don't know the story (not read the comics)

8) It's kind of a funny story 1.5/5
Zach Galifianakis - not a comedy. Serious movie mostly.

Strange, I found it just the other way round, I liked Green Lantern but was kind of bored in Captain America.

Anyways I have not updated this thread for a while, well here it goes

The Holiday - A romantic Comedy about two girls swapping their homes
3/5

The Life of David Gale - A Suspense Movie about a professor who takes an extreme measure to showcase that Capital Punishment should be done away with.

3.5/5

The Firm - Based on John Grisham's Novel. Its about a Fresh graduate getting a High paying Job in a law Firm which as discovers later has some mysteries policies.

4/5

Serendipity - A nice Romcom featureing John Cusack & Kate Beckinsale

2.5/5

Runaway Jury - A great Movie based on John Grisham's novel. A must watch

4/5

Unforgiven - An old cowboy movie by Clint Eastwood, strictly a one time watch

2.5/5

American Psycho - A psycho thriller with brilliant performance by Christian Bale, but creepy visuals & weird storyline. Hated this movie

1.5/5

The A-Team - Nice action movie about a team of ex-veterans executing tough jobs. Things go bad when someone double crosses them.

3/5

Knight and Day - A complete waste, more like Spoof on MI type movies than an actual MI type movie.

1.5/5

The Prestige - Amazing movie about rivalry between two magicians. Great direction(Christopher Nolan) & superb performances by Christian Bale & Hugh Jackman

The Green Hornet - They ruined the green hornet is all I can say.

1/5

Erin Brockovich - A great movie about real story about a lady Erin Brockovich who finds out out about wrong doings of a Big company & makes sure that they pay.

4/5

The Rainmaker - Another court movie involving lawyers & insurance companies, nice storyline & decent performances

3/5

Captain America: The First Avenger - Nice movie but a very long narration & slow moving pace makes it boring in between

3/5

Horrible Bosses - Nice time pass comedy which fluctuates between crappy scenes to some really funny ones. One time watch.

2.5/5

Red - Bruce Willis stars in this Die Hard meets James Bond meets Bourne Identity kind of action movie. Good fun.

3/5

Green Lantern - Nice movie about the comic character, the visuals are nice, the storyline is decent & actors are good to watch.

3.5/5

Phew

Watched it few weeks back. Decent comedy. Charlie Day is a funny character. His voice suits the acting style

Tnx _raVan_ for the recommendation.
Even though I read your message and I thanked you yesterday, I did not spend more time on this subject, as I was about to come to the end of a novel I was reading. This recent novel 'Safe Haven' is by one Nicholas Sparks. His first novel is, (surprise!, surprise!!) the Notebook published in 1996 and the rights to which were bought by Warner Books for $1,000,000. Six of his novels have been turned into major motion pictures.

I wonder if we also have any separate thread for books.

Warm regards from
Rom @ Bagalur village near Bengaluru Int'l Airport.

I agree with you on those points. But I sort of empathized with the skinny short Steve Rogers and the things Captain America had to do for the army for a while.

Kya yaar. I saw Martyrs last night based on the comparison with Hostel. And i nearly dosed off after waiting for almost an hour for the moment to come where i could say that it has surpassed Hostel. But it never even got close to the literally eye popping elements of Hostel, if you know what i mean. The twisting screaming thing was so Exorcist-ish that i was surprised they are still doing this. And tell me, how can self inflicted wounds be at your back??

This left me even more disappointed than The Turistas.

Even the Saw series had more blood and gore and in your face torture than this one.

1. Cannibal Holocaust
2. The Human Centipede
3. The Guinea Pig series
4. Imprint
5. Seven Days
6. Ichi the Killer
7. Audition
Wolf, do you think i should give this list a try, given the difference in opinion we have on Martyrs? The Human Centipede somehow reminds me of Jeff Goldblum's The Fly, although i have not seen Human Centipede.

Hi folks,

Saw the following in the last one week -

Hanna (3.5/5) - Nice thriller, pretty slick work by everyone especially Cate Blanchett as the main villain !

Kill the Irishman (4/5) - Good one actually, based on a real life story of an Irishman who takes on the mighty Italian Mob

The Entitled (3/5) - About a guy who decides to kidnap a few rich kids and things start going wrong

The guard (4/5) - Don cheadle as a FBI chap in scotland with a local cop looking for a drugs shipment. Good job by the fellow who plays the scottish cop. Dont know his name.

Saw a couple of movies over the weekend.

Tintin: 4/5! Enjoyed the movie. The depiction of characters have been awesome and Snowy has been incredible! The only gripe that I have is that Spielberg should have stuck to the book instead of mixing everything and coming up with a story of his own.

The Green Lantern: 2.5/5. A Ho-hum superhero movie. Fans of the same will like it. It will not convert any sci-fi lover into its fan as the Superman (Parts 1 and 2) and Nolan's Batman has done.

What has 3 eyes and still can't see ? Mississippi.

A Gene Hackman special.

Mississippi Burning - I would give it a 4.5/5 and rate it among the best. Built around a true story.

Oh Yeah! I would rate it same. It was an incredible movie.

And, as usual our bollywood folks made it as "Aakarshan" with AD and Akshay Khanna which was as expected a damp squib in comparison

I totally agree, a brilliant movie. Mobike008, I think you mean Aakrosh ?

Another one of my all time favorites would be The Shawshank Redemption. Simply blew my mind !

If robbery is your kind of movies, watch "The Bank Job" starring Jason Statham. Also an honorable mention is "The Inside man" starring Clive Owen. Both are brilliant. The latter is just about fantastic.
