No doubt it. I have been to Chandigarh many times, and the difference with Delhi is tremendous. However, my wife's sister lives there (with her husband and in-laws) and they say that perhaps the traffic situation is not as great as it used to be. Nevertheless, if I get a job there, I will move in an instant.

ditto here vasudeva, the moment some good VLSI/EDA companies open shop there, I am firing my resume. I would love to live there given a chance, even if the salary offered was lower!

Well the city is not the same as it used to be.
and its getting too crowded now.
and almost all roundabouts have traffic lights, and traffic jams are common.
Still better than most metros, but few years down the line,it will be another delhi.

Phamilyphaaji-come over sometime

Chandigarh truly was an AMAZING place 25 years ago.

THe problem now is that the city was planned for a certain population size. Upto that time, the population was not too far out outside the planned capacity. Now its at nearly 10 times the planned capacity, and it has become overcrowded as hell.

Its still a wonderful city, but its not what it used to be. But thats also true for all the other cities of India that I used to love then.

but for the overcrowding and traffic, I still just LOVE chandigarh.

It used to be a town with "harian jharian, chittian darian & sunder narian"!
Last time around, former were vanishing, not sure about the later!

Despite the concerns, there's a reason why it's still the best, which is organization. Hope that's not spoiled, and cheers the the Chandigarh administration! They deserve a special reference!

TThanks goes to the famous French architect Le Corbusier for foreseeing the growth of a city more than 60years ago. It is known as one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century in India.

On 15 July 2007,Chandigarh became the first Indian city to go smoke-free. Smoking at public places has been strictly prohibited and considered as a punishable act by Chandigarh Administration. That was followed up by a complete ban on polythene bags with effect from 2 October 2008.

Its sad we could not replicate this successful model in upcoming growing cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad , Pune etc.

Yeah - having lived in Noida for a cpl of years I share your pain... On the brighter side - Chd has taught me to drive properly and never to drink & drive (which was my assumed right in Noida)
