This aircraft had no fatal accidents in its operating history. This is considered to be the first.

Seven people had died in 1994 during test flight, but never in commercial operations this plane had suffered accident.

This accident is indeed quite surprising for many as there were some signals automatically being transmitted ( from what I have read ) about some component/thing malfunctioning, but then suddenly the plane disappeared.

Its almost certain that all lives are lost, which is very very sad news. Despite having all modern engineering and electronics, we cannot fight against nature.

I hope it is not like what happens in the movie Airport 77 where the whole plane submerges intact to the ocean floor. This is truely a fate worse than death.
I saw this movie over 15 years ago, but am still nervous about flying over deep water because of this.

Many suspect that the plane went down as a result of an explosion. Was there a bomb on board?. Sad news to start the week.

don't worry. a plane floats on water, can not sink to the ocean floor 'intact'. even that would be possible if it had a perfect landing with no damage, like the one in new york a few days back.

Atleast Rediff seems to be confident about the lightening theory!

Air France plane with 228 people on board from Brazil to France crashed into the Atlantic on Monday following a lightning strike.

It is a grave news, really scared to travel over long distances over sea during the rainy and monsoon season over the Atlantic ocean.

RIP for the passengers. It is sad to see the state of the family members.

The search area is supposed to be three times the size of Europe. God be with each one of them. Goes to say, no matter what technology we have, if nature has to take its own course then nothing can come in its way.
Really tragic!

Very tragic,
May God give Courage to the Family Members of the deceased.

if it turns out to be a technical/maintenance failure, the responsible company should no longer be allowed to operate. should be a lesson to others.

why can't the Air Travel become a 100% fail proof ????

A very unfortunate incident. I do hope there are survivors.

I am a keen follower of Aircrash investigations on NatGeo. I hope they find out the reasons behind the crash and fix it.

This missing thing is unexplainable by all means , theres no way a plane of that magnum would go missing.

I'm very hopeful that there is more to this incident than what meets the eye and till that time god give courage to the near and dear ones of the passengers
