One of my favorite car songs has to be Turbo Lover by Judas Priest :-

You wont hear me, But youll feel me.Without warning, somethings dawning, listen. Then within your senses,

You'll know youre defenseless..How your heart beats, when you runfor cover. You cant retreat, I spy like no other

Then we race together. We can ride forever Wrapped in horse-power, drivinginto fury Changing gear

I pull you tighter to me. Im your turbo lover. Tell me theres no other

Im your turbo lover. Better run for cover. We hold each other closer, as we shift to overdrive

And everything goes rushing by, with every nerve alive.

We move so fast it seems as tough weve taken to the sky

Love machines in harmony, we hear the engines cry. On and on

were charging to the place so many seek

In perfect synchronicity of which somany speak

We feel so close to heaven in this roaring heavy load. And then in sheer abandonment, we shatter and explode.

Possibly MY Favorite Song of all TIME

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, theyd be happy for a while.

But february made me shiver
With every paper Id deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldnt take one more step.

I cant remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
Singin, "thisll be the day that I die.
"thisll be the day that I die."

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that youre in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died.

I started singin,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, "thisll be the day that I die.
"thisll be the day that I die."

Now for ten years weve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin stone,
But thats not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.

We were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, "thisll be the day that I die.
"thisll be the day that I die."

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

We started singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, "thisll be the day that I die.
"thisll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devils only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satans spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

He was singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, "thisl l be the day that I die.
"this ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where Id heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldnt play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

And they were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
Singin, "this ll be the day that I die.
"this ll be the day that I die."

They were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
Singin , "this ll be the day that I die."

@vinay
Because a song has one line mentioning a car, does not mean the song is about car.
The American Pie song was about Buddy Holly(his death actually), though Don Mclean never clearly acknowledged the fact.
I guess navin would be more clued to the fact.

As for songs actually about cars, there are quite a few.

For example
Highway Star

yes possibly you are right. But The phrase Drove my chevy to the levee has been used numerous times . But Don Mclean i feel has not given major significance to Chevy/car in the song rather its more about his loss.
But the song would definitely be Empty without him mentioning the Chevy

How about Roy Orbison's "I drove all night". Not exactly about cars, but it is about driving to your loved one. I know it sounds a bit corny, but nonetheless it's relevant here. I believe Celine Dion also did a remake of that in case you like her voice.

I had to escape, the city was sticky and cruel
Maybe i should have called you first
But i was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while i drove
The long straight road ahead, uh huh yeah
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms opened wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside

I drove all night to get to you, is that alright?
I drove all night, crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep, to make love to you
Is that alright? I drove all night

What in this world keeps us from falling apart
No matter where i go i hear the beating of our one heart
I think about you when the night is cold and dark uh huh yeah
No one can move me the way that you do
Nothing erases this feeling between me and you oooh

I drove all night to get to you, is that alright?
I drove all night, crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep to make love to you
Is that alright, I drove all night

Could taste your sweet kisses, your arms opened wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside

I drove all night to get to you, is that alright?
I drove all night, crept in your room
Is that alright? i drove all night
I drove all night to get to you is that alright??
I drove all night crept in your room..

And I absolutely love Queens's "Don't Stop me Now". And even Top Gear agree with me as they voted it the best driving song ever.

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world it's turning inside out Yeah!
I'm floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time having a good time

I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go
There's no stopping me

I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man of you

Don't stop me now I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('Cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (Yes I'm having a good time)
I don't want to stop at all

I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars
On a collision course
I am a satellite I'm out of control
I am a sex machine ready to reload
Like an atom bomb about to
Oh oh oh oh oh explode

I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman out of you

Don't stop me don't stop me don't stop me
Hey hey hey!
Don't stop me don't stop me
Ooh ooh ooh (I like it)
Don't stop me have a good time good time
Don't stop me don't stop me
Ooh ooh Alright
I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman of you

Don't stop me now I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('Cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (Yes I'm having a good time)
I don't wanna stop at all

La la la la laaaa
La la la la
La la laa laa laa laaa
La la laa la la la la la laaa hey!!....

No car song quite like Janis Joplin going "Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?" A true classic...just like the car in the video.

Nice thread, Echo.

@ GTO
Actually Joplin just sang this song without any music in just one take. This was I think was the last song she sang before she died.

It was Medicine Head who did the video and remix. and Oh boy they did a hell of a good job.

There are many that I like some of them are;

1. Alanis Morisette - Ironic

2. Steppenwolf - Born to be wild "easy rider sound track"

3. Daddy Yankie - Gasolina

4. Game and 50 cent - How we Do
