| Senior - BHPian | There have been many threads for different cities about eating out. I think Ahmedabad deserves one too. Warning: Dont visit on the weekends. My picks are mostly those which suit my taste buds (more spicy and salty). But some places also have a bland taste to suit a wider audience. Be prepared to find a lack of non-veggie options though. Gujrati food Rajvadu (my pick) Gokul Vishala Swati Snacks( gujju snacks but pricey) Agaashiye (my pick) Gordhan Thaal (my pick) Tulsi South Indian Sankalp Balan curry leaf dasaprakash (my pick) Udipi Mysore Masala Punjabi( and more) Dhuan (my pick) Dinner bell food garage (One at Gujrat college gets my vote) Gormoh (my pick) Vadapav jay Bhavani (my pick) One at Vijay Cross roads Chaat/ chhole bhature etc Bhagwati Havmor Choice Honest Nukkad Rasranjan (my pick) Bikanervala (my pick) Purohit Sandwich (my pick) TC's (my pick) Mexican Cascade,Rajpath club (my pick) Tomatoes (my pick) Basil (my pick) other cuisines also available Specialty Shocolatery Ikobo Sizzlers (my pick) patang Hotel (absolute top pick) rotating hotel on the bank of sabarmati river Chocolate room (A chocolate pizza? Now you know what to expect) Cafe Upper crust Pizzas U.S. Pizza Dominoes Pizza hutt Ek one Uno Little Italy (other Italian delicacies also available) (my pick) Also some major places to have good food are 1. ManekChowk- people with weak digestion must avoid. Lots of butter and spiced food here available even at 2 in the morning 2. Municipal Market- A once hotspot for teens, still serves good tasty food. 3. IIM-ATIRA gali- Once an abode of Indian styled Chinese food. Best avoided by people with weak digestion. Others can add to it. Last edited by devarshi84 : 24th August 2009 at 04:18. |

| BHPian | Thanks devarshi84 for starting this thread. You have actually made me nostalgic about so many places in Ahmedabad. When I was in college in middle nineties, Honest, Choice, CTF, Havmor, and Tomatoes were our regular hangouts. I remember it was such a heart burn when CTF was almost demolished due to encroachment issues. Quote:

I am at a loss for now being away from Ahmedabad since last 9 years but I would like if someone can compile a list of Dessert joints as well; if it makes sense. We Amdavadis love desserts; don't we? I would start with couple of them... Farki Asharfi Last edited by akbaree : 24th August 2009 at 09:06. | |||

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Well Quality of most of the Restaurant in AHm has gone down in recent times. as i am a pure non-veg. I always go across the bridge to Simran. Small restaurant but great food. I visit there so often that the owner is a very good friend now.ANd for chai you cannot miss the guy in front of IIM. He is a kind of celebrity there. | Senior - BHPian | To the posters above : I havent put in the whole list as the names didnt come up to me. I have spent 3 of my last 5 years in Toronto and yet to be back. @ Akbaree: Seriously, Desserts may need a separate thread. Derani-Jethani, Patel, Asharfi, Vadilal, Amul, Diary Den, Rajasthan icecream, Havmor, Natural's(mumbai), Baskin Robbins, Janta, Girish, Desai, Farki (Best lassi in town) and the list goes on and on. I remember once Times of India mentioning that Ahmedabadi's are the largest consumers of ice-cream in the world. Dunno, how true it was. Freezeland? I am not a big fan. For chai, I think there's not much difference but the maska bun at V.S. is awesome. ShivShakti Daal baati and its ambience are awesome. cleanliness? not sure. Masti used to be a great place but the last time I had food there, I didnt like it. The piano is sure open till late but is pricey and tasted awful.(personal opinion) Also, there's a Kulcha Guy at Vastrapur Lake. Dont remember the taste much but he did have lots of variety. MotiMahal: Never had food but I remember having Pastries from here for years. Our office is situated just next to Moti Mahal. @Siralec: I mostly find that places owned by Sikh people have nice food. |

| BHPian | Egg fans - there's RK eggetary just outside NID, Paldi. Good and variety of egg specialties. There's one more @ IIM road, the owner's name is More, don't know this business name, but again good variety and tasty egg dishes! |

I remember the last time I was out for food on a weekend with friends, we couldnt get a place to sit and eat until 10-30 which was about 2-3 hours later. Not that I say the food is bad in Mumbai, but my friends here in Toronto who hail from Mumbai think I am crazy because I like the food in Ahmedabad more. | Senior - BHPian | nope: the fact is now there are two Derani-jethani ice-cream places. They split up years ago. Update: landed in Mumbai 30 mins ago. Had a vadapav and I maintain that nothing tastes like food in aapnu Amdavad. ![]() |
