Always a sucker for any story from a pretty young female, I'd better take this story to heart!

As for the watchman's part in it --- just to watch? I think he takes his job title too seriously and should be sacked with no hesitation or second chance.

Generally these watchman's were of old age people taking up such jobs to feed themselves. Security job suits them well as its not physically demanding (primarily we put them to manage postal service, parking arrangements, not permitting outsiders)

We all appreciate that staying behind the doors is the most sensible thing given the situation, but wanted the watchman to come n check out.. Even he would have thought that some known persons were there knocking the doors & came to know about the whole thing only upon detailed discussions next morning.

Nikhil's story is very scary. But then, just out of curiosity, what floor are you on, Nikhil? I'm sure your dad sensed the girl as a fake for some reason. Please give us a feedback of his train of thought at that time.

Damns this is indeed scary. Glad to know that nothing bad happened.

As for the watchman, from what Nikhil has mentioned, the watchman is not for entire area but only for a particular house, why should he take any action for something happening at someone else's house?

At the max I would expect him to raise an alarm by shouting but under no condition should he leave his post at the designated house to ward off someone at another residence.

Nikhil you guys are lucky and thanks to your dad's common sense.

Its not just a matter of theft but its about the safety of your family.

These a**holes just need money for drugs/alcohal and can go to any extent.

But why dint the watchman raise an alarm when he saw all this.

Gosh...that was scary experience, presence of mind of your folks did work!

These days its not just about the local robbers but also robbers who are coming from outside...few months back in a local news channel they were showing some thief's who were caught before the left Bangalore, once they are out of here they are almost untraceable...

btw which language the girl was conversing?

thanks for sharing this, am sure who ever goes through this thread can watch out!

Hats off to your dad. he really saved the day here.

I know Bangalore auto guys are getting bad by the day but this is taking things to another level. Imagine getting stuck in an auto with one of these guys!

The girl was talking in very good English!

Ours is not an apartment but individual houses. So, what was happening in front of our door was visible to everyone on the main road.

Glad that nothing untoward happened, your dad's presence of mind has to be lauded.
In our neighborhood we have each others phone numbers close at hand and have an established system wherein we call our next door neighbors if we hear or see anything suspicious and we all switch on all external lights. This has worked quite well in some incidents of attempts by burglars.

Dont you have a security door? We had installed one many years ago along with some mirrors to see if any one is hiding on the stairs just around the door. It helped in cutting down incidences. But presence of mind is of most importance. I am not sure I would have displayed the same given the circumstances just awoken from my sleep. Once someone is in your house there is little you can do. Kudos to your dad.
I think watchmen need to be equipped with cell phones atleast to summon the cops. Little they can do with no weapons.

I stay around the same area!

I better be watchful. But surely this is scary and kudos to your dad who took the matter from the head and not heart!
