If we're talking about an anthropomorphic god that's concerned about our welfare, I don't there's one, period. Some humanists equate the forces of nature with god, but such a god has no role to play in our daily life. One thing's certain — there is ZERO benefit from praying to deities except for the "mental peace" one claims to get from believing in the superstition. I'd rather remain rational. To find out how the non-religious camp thinks, it's worth reading authors such as Richard Dawkins, Stephen Jay Gould and Christopher Hitchins.

I am atheist and would remain so for as long as I live. But I do not like to hurt others sentiments by trying to prove something and would not accept the same if somebody tries to convince me otherwise.

Quote from Bruce Almighty :

God is a mean kid with a magnifying glass.

That's good humour. But yes, I believe in some higher power called God. And going by pouplar theories like everybody's 'Sins v/s Good deeds', prayers, goodwills, narak, swarga, paap, and demands in return to some offerings, etc., I am absolutely flabbergasted by the ginormous computing and accounting capabilities of His. Or Hers! (potential topic for another poll). God may be a DJ or a woman or whatever, wouldn't change much if I believe or not. The interesting question would be 'Does God believe in me?'

But I hate religion. At least the popular derivatives of it.

God is like imaginary number. He doesn't exist but assuming He exists help us solve many other problems!

Default Hindu and Buddhist texts

Both Hindu and Buddhist texts state that there is something, a reality, which defies all rational description including being described as a deity. The object of yogans of both religions is to enter that trans-rational reaity that is beyond name and form. At some point yogans are encouraged to give up even god. Both religions say "Yes, there is a reality but it is pure intuition, pure consciousness. The concept of God is only a poetic metaphor and must be given up."

I believe that god exists. But I simply refuse to believe their presence in noisy overcrowded major pilgrim centers. When I see beauty of nature, that's where I feel god's presence. Ancient and quiet temples come next.

Good thread though controversial. I am an atheist, for the record. Richard Dawkins' 'God Delusion' is a highly recommended read for all here. This book is bound to convince the border cases firmly into atheist side

Maybe there are a whole lot of things humans cant explain and even when they can they will goof up the most obvious/simplest and complicate the rest.

Am out of this one

Is this book available in India? or is it "banned"??

Option 2 and 4 are almost the same in the basic logical sense. You see, even if one did not believe in the existence of God, he would still exist, if only in someone's mind. Even if it was someone else's mind.

In fact if option 4 was valid, there would be no poll would there?
