I ordered a kindle from Amazon. It was shipped thru DHL. The package reached Chennai Airport in 2 days. It was waiting for custom clearance for 2 days owing to the weekend. Totally it took 5 days for the package to be delivered. The packing was good when i received it.

I have been using Amazon for more than a decade but all this while I use to ship stuff to the hotel I am staying or to someone who could bring it for me from US.

Recently, as part of the thanksgiving sale saw a Pioneer 1021k receiver on sale for $299. List price is $549. I placed the order and set up the shipping to my Bangalore address. 5 days later, it was at my door step. Customs cleared and all. I was impressed. it came totally unscathed and I was able to track it all way to bangalore from Amazon's warehouse in the US. DHL all the way.

A few days later DHL sent me the invoice for the customs amount that they had paid. Need I ask for more?

My total landing cost was about $450 including shipping and customs. Way better than INR 48,000 that pioneer india sells it for.

Super transactions for the Kindle and HU there crossroads and blackraven.

I always worry about the shipping aspect when ordering directly to India.

I had once bought a Paul McCartney CD from Barnes and Noble and received a courier with the packing intact...... very intact.... but there was NO CD inside!

After that I have always been wary of ordering directly to India

Have been using Amazon.com since 1997, including 5-6 years of shipping directly to India. No once I have lost a shipment. Amazon usually picks the most professional courier for their shipping.

There is this sale on posters on Amazon that caught my attention last week.

Each poster had a 99% discount! So what was $9.50 was just about $0.01-$0.08! So I excitedly selected about 15 posters. (Well, wat can I say? I'm a sucker for posters ) and then after confirming my shopping cart and typing in the credit-card number, I got a quote saying that the total bill was $200. I was

Apparently, direct shipping would cost me about $15-$20 per poster.

I'm a student and can't afford such absurd bills, just for posters. But I want these posters so badly!

Read this thread and thought of checking out Camcorders. Managed to find a couple of them, however it seems they cannot be shipped to India for some reason.

How do I know what can be shipped and what not?

Hi
Congrats on the purchase of Pioneer 1021. Is it a 110 V Model ?
I was contemplating ordering the Onkyo TX NR 609 from Amazon.de (Germany)
They have 220 v models ..works out to be cheaper than official india price.

Let me know the voltage and the converter you are planning/using .
Thanks.

The site is still under beta and most items are not on sale yet, I was checking
Junglee.com: Meguiar's G1016 Smooth Surface Clay Kit

According to Economictimes the site was launched last thursday and Amazon is yet to do the formal launch. Nice to see what amazon bought in year 2000 is now working for them viz junglee.com
