Thumbs down Citibank's Bill pay feature goes for a toss!

I usually pay my landline as well as electricity bills through the Bill Pay facility linked to my Citibank account. When i logged in to pay the bills over the weekend, i was informed that the facility was withdrawn owing to them moving to a new software platform. I was in no hurry, and so waited.

This evening, i logged in, to notice the site could now be used to pay bills, and i was pleased. I retrieve the biller details saved earlier, and proceed to pay the electricity bill.

I am faced with a 'Invalid Bill number' error.
I recheck and try 4 times.
No luck.

I then try with the Airtel broadband biller details.
This time it says 'Invalid Account number'.

I am now irritated. If there was a major platform change, shouldn't it be released only after proper testing?!

I am now left to the mercy of having to either pay the bill manually, which i have never done in the past 3+ years.

Anyone else facing a similar issue?

But did'nt Citi inform you via email/sms regarding some of the facilities to be in suspended mode from 4th Feb onwards for a week or so...their website also says so. I recall seeing in the message that for bill payment, which falls under this migration schedule, customers are advised to arrange alternate mode of payment.

Any major platform change will take some time, since it involves a database migration as well..and people like us who are in the software line, know, however much testing you do, when it goes live, it is bound to throw up surprises.

Just give it a couple of more days, and I think things should be fine.

Yup, Citibank had sent sms & e-mails about services being affected for a period commencing 4th Feb.

So I guess this is a temporary glitch Benny, cheer up

They'd sent out an email notification about a temporary outage of some services due to server migration.

This seems like a temporary problem, I'm sure it would get resolved in a few days.

For this month's electricity bill, you could make the payment at Bangalore One centres. They are open even in the evenings.

Airtel Broadband bill payment would be easy. Just log on to Airtel website and make online payment from there using internet banking/credit card.

Thanks pgginish. It looks to be a rather easy to use site. I shall wait and check if Citibank's bill pay sorts itself out, else shall use this.

Thanks once again!

@ben sir,From last month onwards the whole location number is changed in many areas. In my case also I was paying the bill from past 3 years with the location code as S8(1120404).Now suddenly the location code got changed to S10(1120504).So the bill was not uploaded in icici, visabillpay or in SBI.So I had to make the payment manually. I then re-registered the bill in S10 mode and it worked from this month. So check the old bill with the new for the changes in location code and re-register. After enquiring with the BESCOM guys, they told that due to the merging of corporation wards this happened. It might take another 2 months to get the old system to work.

I just checked visa bill pay. Looks like we need to register the biller there. Once biller approves then only we can make payments.
This may not happen in the next 1 week.

Is there any alternative to pay immediately?

Edit: Ok, found the "Pay right away" option. But its not available fo BESCOM :(
Regards,

benbsb29,
I got the same message while I wanted to pay electricity for Marathahalli flat. Surprisingly electricity payment for my bannerghatta road flat happened without any problem.

I think its better to wait for a day or two and then try.
