You can try out the following restaurants. I had been there recently and found it to be good.

1. Atteel (1 km from Manipal on the Udupi-Manipal Road)
2. Ocean's pearl (Mlore - opposite to T V Raman Circle)

During my recent trip to Mangalore 2 weeks back, had been to Ideal Cafe (owned by Ideal ice-creams). This is in KS Rao cross road near Hampankatta area.
I was impressed with this concept, brought back some good memories of Singapore since it seemed exactly like the Komal's group south indian fast food restaurants in Singapore. Nice ambience, self-service with seating (not darshini style standing). Good South indian snacks/tiffen items, ice-creams.
Also don't miss Ideals - the ice-cream parlour near one end of KS Rao road, Hampankatta area (Gudbud and chikoo ice-cream was superb)

The eat-out experience in Manipal just took a major set back starting yesterday. Police have banned parking on the entire stretch of Manipal Main road, starting from Tiger circle to MIT. Those who park there get a wheel lock and a fine, cops are permanently stationed there. The designated parking areas are so small, it will get filled up by morning. I don't know for whose benefit this exercise is being carried out. This will surely ruin most businesses in that road. That Kini General Store guy lucked out, he sold his business couple months back and retired.

This means no more visits to Snack Shack or Hangyo in the car. The nearest auto stand is 300m from my home. That means I have to take a bus to eat-out in Manipal. Not happening... I'll just order home delivery in future.

@harishv; Try Basil. It is a small restaurant off the main roads in Manipal and the chap makes some excellent Continental fare. Even the food court in KMC (opposite manipal.edu) has some good food.

@Samurai; The parking thing is indeed crazy. So one has to park in the side road (Syndicate Bank area). How about the manipal.edu area? I expect to be in Manipal for about five weeks staring the 8th of June.

Is this a repercussions of Distt HQ coming up near EndPoint or just a way of raising some moolah!

We should be able to meet then. There is parking behind KMC hospital.

No, this is not connected to the DC office. Just to heckle the citizens, nothing more.

'Bittoo the Dhabha' is one of the famous eateries on the highway, near padubidri. But, they are vegetarian dhaba.

Which are the other places in Bunder?

I think he is referring to Pallavi Restaurant located at the center of Padubidri. Their crab dish is very famous.

I had been to Pabbas a couple of months back. When I saw the menu, I thought it was familiar. I thought and thought about where I had seen this menu before and then I saw a small subscript near the Pabbas logo. The text was 'Ideal's Pabbas Ice Cream'. Then I remembered, the menu was exactly the same as Ideal's Ice cream. I guess, Ideal's has taken over Pabbas.

I used to be a big fan of Ideal's. Of late I haven't been there though. The last time I was there was on Aug 14th 2011. I drove to Mangalore on a Sunday evening from Hassan, had ice cream and came back the same evening.

You are right addyhemmige; I believe Pabbas is a part of the Ideal's group.

There used to be a "Shetty Ice Cream" long ago close to the Clock Tower junction. Wonder what happened to them?
