Lots of "Vegan" restaurents serve dishes made with Tofu that tastes like Chicken/Beef. Pretty much every chinatown has a few.

I have tried most of the Tofu dishes (and I eat tofu at least twice a week); it tastes nothing like chicken/beef; what it tastes like is mild soyabin.

Default Shocking Secrets About the Junk Food Industry

Hello,

I found this article while surfing the internet. It is an interesting read about the Junk Food Industry. This small article makes you aware of the junk you are consuming..

This article is basically about a Pizza company which makes the food cost to be as low as possible to generate maximum profits and are also willing to dilute their quality to generate maximum benefits. With that goal in mind, they are more than willing to sacrifice ingredients altogether...!!

Not really a shocker. The equation 'Cost * Quality * Availability = Constant' applies to everything, not just junk food.

If something's cheap and easily available, quality is bad.
If something's expensive and easily available, quality is bad.
If something is cheap but good quality, won't be easily available.

Nothing new in here. If anyone actually see's how the beautifully presented food is really prepared, more than 90% of the population would stop going to ANY restaurants, including the ones with 5 stars next to their names.

Junk food is just what it is called, so I do indulge in junk food, but it is very limited. Probably once a month, but have absolutely tried to keep my kid away from them as much as possible.

Though OT, on the other hands, these branded QSRs are spending a lot in advertisements and infrastructure establishments. To let you guys know the energy bill paid by McD across US is nearly 4 billions per year. This includes electricity and gas.

I am more concerned about the hormones in animals and things that might impact our health at cell level with all the boosters used for either plants or animals.
Sadly, there are no policies on this to control.

Last week, me and my friends dropped into McD opposite banashankari BDA complex and were served burgers with fungi growing on the bread. First my friend spotted it in h her burger and it was returned. Then I was shocked to see fungi in my burger too. Went and blasted the people there like anything and I will never regain the lost trust in this particular brand. I always thought that the premium paid in these branded restaurants was mainly because they never compromised on quality and cleanliness.

There was an official from McDonalds in the restaurant that day, who came to offer a refund for it, but no, that's not a way to settle things. When they cant even see spores growing on the Bun, I am unsure about the meat available there. I can safely say that I have never had a single such experience in any non branded place till date and I can trust them better.

@audioholic, did you take a photo and preserve the bill? If you have, please take it up with McDonald's. Sometimes it can be just the franchise which is doing the mischief. If you have not taken a photo, please remember that the worst thing to do in such a case is to do nothing.

Well,
I have been eating at these joints for good part of the last decade.

But, when I gave it a thought (before a year or so..):

Veggies/meat being sourced on a large scale (practically every day)
Veggies/meat being sorted/cleaned/washed (?)
Veggies/meat - in large scale being cooked/processed for consumption.
Preservation
Frozen / Cold storage / Transport
Reheat & serve "FRESH" in a short time.

There is really a very very tiny hope, anything we are consuming is going to be any good for the body!

Meat starts to rot right from the moment - it turns to 'meat'.
So - to expect it to 'rot least' till it reaches our plate is only a race against the clock!

I have stopped eating junk, since more than a year now.
Wish I would have realized sooner!

^^ That's just my opinion.

Ace.

The issue is not limited to Indian counter parts:

Here it is:

Are KFC / Cafe Day / Pizza Hut hygienic anymore?-wp_20140819_12_07_27_pro.jpg

Well I tackled them using the picture itself. The first burger was shown to them and they replaced it with a new one. When mine too was having the Fungi, I took a picture, and later slammed the burger on the counter. They immediately took it away from the scene and told they will get a new one. However it was beyond a compromise as it happened twice. Since I had the picture with me, I had a hold on them. I blasted the cashier and also told him to call the guy who assembled the burger. Later that guy also got a nice round of blasting since its visible clearly. Both of them were offering a refund which I was not interested in. My question was how can they pass a visible flaw, forget taste or how stale the food has become. This wasnt a one off case either, and the whole batch of buns would have got the fungi.

Seeing this, an employee from McDonalds(not the franchisee) was sitting inside the restaurant who came and asked me what happened. I showed the picture to him and first he told that it could be the seasoning present in the sauce. I got more furious since the burger was dry, as seen above with no sign of any sauce. Had to abuse both badly and I couldnt do anything much. If an official from the company itself was trying to put away the case, escalation would again return back to this person, who in turn would just try to hush up offering a refund or something similar.
