Default Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

My wife got her passport issued after our marriage.
Assuming Wife Name:- AAA
My name :- XXX
Wife's father's name :- YYY
The name in her passport is AAA XXX.
But all her other documents like driving licence, voter ID and Aadhar has AAA YYY.
Now in passport I want to revert her surname to the one before marriage so that it matches with all other documents.
Is this possible?
Funny part is in this case even I will have to get my passport re-issued since spouse name is printed as AAA XXX.
Hope all this name business is not too confusing.

@rajiv2r1612; Nomenclature changes from place to place and community to community.

Some possible examples:

1. Common in Sindhis and some Kashmiris. Total name change incl first name. Example Nan Nehru became Vijayalakshmi Pandit.

2. Only surname change in some places of the north: xyz Gupta may become xyz Agarwal.

3. Replacement of fathers name and surname with Husband's Name & Surname. My own daughter-in-law is from one such community in Karnataka. We chose a different route, snd she is now <Given name> <Original Surname> <Our surname>. This is what appears on her PAN with the PP continuing in the maiden name.

4. Some parts of the south have the given name as the second name, so the first name changes.

These are just illustrative, so the nomenclature for married ladies is a total mess. This is where intelligent name of <current name> and <previous name> can be a real savior esp if both appear on the passport.

Without lengthy queues there is no point in opting for tatkal. I do not think it takes much more than a fortnight in the worst case. Some placed send it out within three days. All depends of the 'printing queue'.

Verification Certificate was essentially a piece of paper certifying you for what you are. This was issued by a high ranking babu!

Not required as long as you have the other documents in place

If i am not mistaken, then this is required if you want to skip the police verification (VC - verification certificate) in a tatkal application else you are issued the passport but there will be a police verification post it. I had applied for tatkal in Pune without this document and got the passport but had a police verification later but I understand this (police verification process) again varies from city to city/jurisdiction. So IMO, if you have time for police verification then you dont need this.

The remaining - NOC (No Objection certificate)/ (PIL) Prior Intimation Letter/ IC (Identity Certificate), are generally required by applicants in public services or holder of diplomatic passports. To my knowledge public services employees need to first get an approval and then apply for passport and cannot do so like us. So when they apply they need to have these documents along. This is my understanding

I am in need of advise from fellow bhpians.

My passport was issued in 2009 and it is due for renewal in 2019. I got married in 2014 and have a kid (20 months). My wife does not have a passport. All her identification proofs have the adress of her native town. I moved from the old address to a new one in the same town. How do I apply for my wife's and kid's passport, keeping in mind that there will be changes made to mine as well? Can I open an account in SBI or any nationalised bank for me and my wife with the current address? Will that address proof be sufficient for police verification?

My wife applied for the passport renewal. As we are planning for vacation outside India in April/May, she had to go for renewal, though the passport expires only in Aug 2017.

No changes in any of the passport details from the previous one. But she has to go through police verification. Why is that? I got mine renewed last year and there was no police verification for me.

For Schengen visa, is it mandatory that the police verification needs to be completed? How do we know if the verification is completed? As the passport is already granted and in print, can we go ahead with holiday booking without waiting for police verification to be completed?

I just applied for my renewal passport. Had to include the change of address and addition of wife's name. In the absence of marriage certificate, I had carried an affidavit in the format suggested in Annex D. To my surprise, they did not ask even for that.

They made me sign the photocopies of the documents, Aadhar, Voter ID and copies of old passport. Scanned it with originals and the sign and uploaded and also returned me the form generated before exiting.

By the end of the day, I received a message saying that the passport had been printed.

I think things have been further simplified for renewals, in particular if Aadhar is provided and varified.

Just a Passport related question for you guys.

Is a Tenant in a rented apartment allowed to get the rented address as their permanent address ? Since this is a permanent address proof Im guessing not.

Im asking because the flat opposite has been rented out by some irritating people and one fine day a cop shows up at our door asking my mother for a signature for their passport application. My mother flatly refused stating that its a rented place and her permission was not taken as witness. She then gave the neighbours a piece of her mind for giving her name as a reference, they didnt even know her full name and had given initials and surname. My mother made sure she put a big cross and wrote a note on the cops paper.

My renewal is under process and police verification happened day before yesterday night. But the status still shows as 'pending physical police verification'

Is this normal? Also is there any way I can speed up the process. I need this on a family emergency. Can submitting any document citing this help?

Note: I could not go through the tatkal route as there was a name correction, change in signature etc

I have heard that for senior citizens, it is not required to take a prior appointment to PSK.
Is that true?
Has anyone tried this?

SBI passbook is an accepted address proof, I used it as my apartment here in Bangalore is rented and my permanent address is in Kerala. They asked me to take a photocopy of a year's transactions as proof. Got my passport in 3 days, this included a change in my name as it was printed in the wrong order. Aadhar card will speed things up.

Was true when i renewed my Passport in 2013. I used it. Then i lost my passport in Bhutan and had to get a fresh one. This time (documented in this thread) I did not try the Sr Citizen Route, but was offered an appointment within a week so followed that route.

I presume this channel should still be there.

A few days ago I was chatting with my BIL and the topic changed to passport renewal since I had mine renewed mentioning him as a reference. The police verification was taking some time and I was worried since I had to travel shortly.

Interestingly he told me that even his police verification took some time and in that duration he was able to make two short trips abroad for business reasons. So it seems one can make use of a passport with police verification still pending !
