Default FIFA World Cup 2010 just around the corner

Yes, its that time again. The largest sporting spectacle is just a month away. I consider it the true "World" cup where most countries across the globe have battled for a place in the finals. The selection has taken years and some great teams have not even made it through. And don't give me all that "soccer" BS - this is football. Plain and simple.

I have been a great fan of Argentina even when I was a kid - watching the great Diego Maradona weave his way through heavy traffic. And who can forget his amazing header - the "head" or hand of god goal. Maradona was what got me hooked into football. Him and the place where we stayed when I was a kid - Nigeria. Like most African nations, Nigeria was and is mad about football.

I'm really excited and looking forward to some great matches. As always, supporting Argentina, Nigeria, The Netherlands and Germany. Would be a great match - Argentina v/s Nigeria - 12th June.

What about you guys?

I agree, this is not soccer, this is FOOTBALL. Looking forward to the mega event. This time I'm rooting for Spain. They, along with the Netherlands are the most underachieving teams in the World Cup.

P.S: I don't know why Americans call a sport where a ball is carried in the hands 'football'. No offence to NFL fans

Spain played very well during Euro-2008. Have not followed them since, but hope they 'carry' the form to the WC. I am going to root for Spain.

As always, i root for the Italians.
However, i also would like to see Spain go all the way. They were awesome during the Euro Cup.

Between, what do you guys feel about the England squad this time?

The England team almost always looks good on paper.
With defenders Ferdinand, Terry and Carragher , the mid field led by Gerrard, Lampard and Walcott (Assuming Gerrard's backpasses are on target this time around ) and Rooney leading the front if he recovers from his injury they look decent.

The English players are all stars when they play for their clubs, but when it comes to national duty, they are nowhere to be seen. I feel it is lack of co-ordination between these stars. Lets see how they fare this time around

This is the thing I wait for every 4 years.
For all the hype about league football, it all boils down to this one tournament that everyone wants to see and enjoy (and the players want to win desperately)

As for teams I like? Spain- for the way in which they play the game.
Italy - a sentimental pick as I rooted them on right from Italia '90 and my all time favourite footballer came to prominence during that cup.
Argentina - I like most Latin American teams but this is special due to #10, Diego Maradon..this time he is the coach (although he is doing a horrible job)

As for the England team? more hype that anything else. If Rooney gets injured they are screwed.

Absolutely, looking forward for a great tournament. from the start I liked Portugal mid-fielders apart from Brazil and Argentina.

No Ronandinho and No Adriano, Brazil can probably afford to leave them out.
