I vote for Argentina simply because they have a player like Lionel Messi.

So Spain go through at the expense of Portugal. The match was quite boring since Spain had all the possession due to a non existent Portuguese midfield. David Villa was very sharp and deserved the goal.

My heart goes out to the Portuguese custodian Eduardo, he made some fantastic saves but in the end had to concede to the exceptional Villa.

For me the Spaniards have already booked a berth in the Semi finals. The match against Paraguay will just be a formality.

Spain is getting better but they have to improve leaps and bound if they are to lift the World Cup, sterner tests await them.

Spain and Portugal didn't have a clue what to do. The goal was one of the very few cases where the passes went in proper direction.

I think Germany and Brazil, and to some extent Argentina and Holland are the ones whose offensive game is well oiled. Both these games will be interesting.

4 south american teams are on track to reach teh semis. 3 is a definite possibility. Spain has looked shaky, but Paraguay failed to find a goal against Japan.

Ghana 0 0%
Uruguay 1 0.68%

Brazil 19 12.84%
Netherlands 6 4.05%

Argentina 62 41.89%
Germany 31 20.95%

Paraguay 0 0%
Spain 16 10.81%

I think FIFA has changed the rules for this world cup. Anybody who picks up a second yellow card in the tournament will be allowed to play the next match. However, this applies to the quarter-finals and above matches. So, technically, even if Kaka gets a Yellow both in the quarter final and semi-final (assuming they go though), he can still play the final.

Uruguay looks weak as per history, but they have a better balanced team with good attack and a very solid defence

Yes. I too felt the same. Without Deco they were woeful in the midfield. They were just playing in a haphazard manner

I think the rule for this world cup is that if you've a yellow card till QF and once you reach Semi Final that card will be erased and you'll enter the Semi final clean. But if Kaka gets another one at QF(2nd one) then he is bound to miss the Semifinal I think. If he doesn't get anymore Yellow card in the QF then he'll go to the semifinal with a clean slate.

The Yellow card rule is Yellow in QF + Yellow in SF -> Can play in Final

So the player can still miss a semi final if he gets 2 yellows prior to that.

The octopus is predicting a Germany win. I hope the octopus is wrong and Argentina wins. Actually I liked the way Germany decimated England but my heart wants Argentina to win the cup this time.

Out of the other QF fixtures I hope it will be Brazil, Uruguay and Spain!!!

The octopus predicts correctly only about 80% of the time. I hope it got it wrong this time. I want Argentina to win the cup as well and win in style by thrashing Brazil in the final.

Even I hope the octopus is wrong. My heart sinks even at the thought of argentina being ousted in YET another QF in YET another penalty shoot off against germany YET again. Last time they had the home support but let the loudest of vuvuzela sing the argentine tune this time round.
