Default What's happening to the weather in Chennai?

Unlike previous few years, this year the weather in Chennai seems to be radically different. Almost all evenings this month have become very cloudy with a lot of occasional rainfalls. I have never experienced a cooler June before. Even May was not as hot as it used to be. Except for a week, the rest of May was really not Hot. Add to it the Voila Cyclone which lasted for over a week.

While I'm enjoying the weather, I'm getting a little worried too. Because I live right next to the sea. Wondering whether this is a warning for a major catastrophe that is awaiting to hit Chennai.

Cliffy! it is all because of global warming! over the past several years I had/have surely felt the difference in the weather pattern in chennai. Even now as I speak, the temperatures are dipping!!

Let us not blame global warming, I don't think such huge changes would happen due to GW..

A cool weather should be an indication of a depression especially on the coastal side interfacing Bay of bengal..

All I am worried about is my office AC, I guess it set at around 20-21, it is freezing here. Outside weather is 25-26 :-)

It is all cyclical, partly due to the "El Nino" effect. I remember the summer of '92 or '93 when a major cyclone hit Chennai during May. The winds were strong enough to shatter a couple of window panes in our office building. The entire "Agni Nakshatram" duration was indeed cool and felt very pleasant, with intermittent spells of rain and drizzle. In my memory that was the coolest summer of Chennai.

Don't worry, I don't think another Tsunami is about to hit us anytime soon!

A Tsunami can only be triggered by a massive earth quake. The Weather is different, good to sip a cup of tea or soup watching the rains! *chillx*

Wrong. Apart from earthquakes in the seabed, underwater volcanic eruptions as well as massive landslides that go in to the ocean can also trigger tsunamis.

It can be triggered by a massive meteorite crash as well!

Reason enough to cheer! I'll be in Chennai by the end of this week and was fearing hot and humid conditions (last year was pretty hot) - but alas i'm in for a positive surprise!

Global warming is supposed to make the mercury rise and not fall, right ?

Anyway, I like this weather better

Hmmm.. Global "cooling" anyone ?

It just finished a masssssive rain and is preparing for another on-slaughter. Not sure if its raining at all parts of city

Blame it on global dimming
Global cooling is also happening!

and

Global warming is a scam!

Actually Kerala is also a lot more cooler than usual. I have not experienced a cooler June & July like this in the past.

Kerala is cooler because it's raining cats and dogs. And this IS the rainy season in Kerala

Here in Chennai, this is supposed to be the end of the hot summer (at least the last couple of years used to be like that). But this is some kind of Equatorial climate now a days! Hot days and rainy evenings/nights.

If you mention it, the phenomenon goes away.

Let it be like this always !!!
