This is something that I found very common even among petrolheads, not just the non-petrol heads.
My friends who own a car, always get pissed off with the bike riders overtaking them from the left side.

I agree that is wrong to an extent, but doesnt mean that you go on the right most side of the road(with a median) at 40kmph and say thats wrong.

People dont give option to bikers at all, the only way they can go past you is overtaking you on left side.

One request, in case if you want to go slowly please go on the left side.

There was this half-page ad of JAGUAR XF in Malayala Manorama daily last week. I was drooling at the car when a friend of mine took a look. His immediate reaction:

"Aha, this is a straight copy of Hyundai Verna!"

Terribly Off Topic here, but I couldn't resist. Hence the post.

The car going at 40kmph on the right most lane will most probably be waiting for the car in front to give way so that he can overtake. It will be then that some bikers overtake you from the left, then swerve their bike to the right and overtake the car in front and continue their journey as if nothing has happened. Why don't they wait till the car guy overtakes the other car and then proceed ? Just a thought. I may be wrong.

And yes, I ride a bike as well. In fact, more than my car. I don't change lanes abruptly.

Cool This is too good

I went to check M.S. Vitara at one of the Showroom in Bangalore with 2 friends of mine (let's call them A & B). "A" wants to buy petrol SUV to conquer Himalayan heights.

I am having a discussion with "A" that even turbo charged CRDI engines do not lack much performance at high altitudes and there comes input our friend "B"...you should buy Safari 2.2 intercooler as it can go anywhere and as far as fuel combustion at high altitude is concerned; you change Safari's spark plugs to some high performance spark plugs. We were like , "B" was little surprised to know that diesel engines burn fuel with compression and not spark plugs

I understand but he was very particular about DICOR
Another incident:

My mom came to Bangalore to celebrate Diwali with me this month and she was looking at my new car (Optra Magnum) for first time. Her immediate comment was "this looks like an Audi" (because my brother drives an A4 and both Optra & A4 are 3 box cars)

PS:I am putting an effort to tell her the difference between various cars and using debit/credit cards. She can now comfortably recognise Audi, Suzuki, Chevy, BMW, Mercedes, Fiat and TATA logos.

Comment (and general agreement) among colleagues during tea time while discussing their car purchases: "One must never purchase a car with synchromesh gearbox. It causes to many problems."

And some of them mechanical engineers to boot! I was too shocked to set the record straight. This happened some 10 years ago, and I think they still believe that.

Now, what was the logic behind that comment?

If there was some logic to it, it would be acceptable... and probably lend itself to some discussion of the facts. But obviously, my colleagues accepted somebody else's statement without question or introspection.

If this has happened some 50 years ago, then there would have been some logic in it. When synchromesh GB was introduced, drivers at that time were more comfortable with double-clutching and the synchromesh transmissions/shifts were more noisy compared to the legacy gearboxes.

Apparently your friend's reference was some WWII driver

I heard this about the Yeti.

It's just a streched up Fabia and why the hell does it cost 17 lac+

I tried explaining that it's a 4x4 and can off-road a bit and that it is built on the Laura's platform, but in vain.

He has a point. Ferrari developed the paddle shift for the F1 car. The used it in their road cars, then in the Alfa Romeo's and finally in some Fiats/

India will remain a developing country in the foreseeable future! But the Amby indeed is better than so many other cars for rear seat comfort! In fact it will be right up there, if you exclude real luxury brands.

My friend thought that All-Wheel-Drive meant that all the cars controls were on the steering wheel! Kinda like paddle-shift with no pedals!
