Watched 'Senna' the other day and was blown away!!

Next day at work:
Me: Watched this 'film' yesterday - Senna. Was too awesome!!
Colleague: Really? What's it about?
Me: Of course its about Senna and his motorsport career!
Colleague: Oh! Probably I should watch it too.
Me: I almost cried at the end, at his funeral...
Colleague: What?!?! The guy dies at the end?? Man, you spoiled the climax!!
Me: !!!!!!!

^^ Your friend has a point. Rights for the Bollywood version of Senna have been grabbed by the Bhatt brothers and they are apparently casting Emraan Hashmi as Senna. It's rumoured they are changing it slightly to a happy ending keeping in mind Indian audiences .

An old Gujarati member of the tennis club: I bought a Superb

Me: Nice - it is a great car.

Old guy: It has lots of airbags!

Me: Yep, that is good.

Old guy: (mixing Guju, English and Hindi): Abhi che nay - Airbags kay without gaadi chalanay ka maja nahin aata hai. Bilkul nai aata hai. (These days, driving a car without airbags is no fun at all)

I was too flummoxed to react but then just nodded my head in agreement.

All cars on Indian roads are equipped with 5 airbags.
He knows this.

Talking Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

So it happened like this -
Me and a group of friends were returning from a late night dinner in a Scorpio (pre-worshipped car). The owner friend wouldn't let us drive the vehicle and is known to scare the hell out of us in any vehicle he drove. That night was no different, empty roads oozed liters of adrenalin in his body and we all were praying to all the gods, our hands on anything we could grab and trying to stay composed. After a while, a friend sitting in the back sees the silencer coughing fire and we got down to check what it could be and the conversation goes like this -

Owner: (Scared and worried) What the hell man?
We all: (Amazed) Yeaaaah... Told you to drive with sanity!
Owner: I've never seen anything like this in my life. Have you?
Friend who spotted the fire: (Proudly) Yes!
Owner: Where?
Friend who spotted the fire: (With a big grin) NFS!
Owner: You *^%$&*&*^%$&

And the rest of us erupted in uncontrollable laughter and we still remember this event everytime we meet. I later googled for the answer - A car backfires because unburned fuel is getting to the muffler. The heat of the exhaust system causes the fuel to combust, thus a backfire.

My wife and I were on the way to drop my mother-in-law to an intercity bus station last week. We spotted a 520d on the way and my wife started explaining about the car to her mother. After 2 sentences, my MIL cut her short and said "hamaare Indigo se thoda bada hai" (slightly bigger than our Indigo). My wife looked at me, saw a grin on my face, and changed the topic.

Yep.. That is the very reason I did not buy a 320i and instead bought an Alto.

One of my managers recently bought a Figo TDCi and when someone asked him if he considered the i20 diesel, his answer was "i20 uses CRDi technology and CRDi engines are know to cause more pollution", hence he gave preference to the TDCi.

P.S: I should admit that he loves his driving and machine, so cannot be called a non-petrol head

I am at a self service eatery grabbing a quick bite by myself, when 4 men decide to gather around my table drinking chai.

Their conversation goes something like this.

First man: “Does this road take you to Chennai?”
Second man: “Yes, it does.”
Third man: Quickly quips “Yeah, I can do this in one hour on my bike”

I stop eating for a moment, decide against joining in the conversation and continue to eat.
The distance he was talking about covering in an hour is about 320km!

Better sense prevails and someone says, “No way, that’s not possible”.
He continues to add, “It can be done in 2 hours in an Endeavour though, as it is a 4 wheel drive”.

I just kept my head down and continued eating, barely able to contain my laughter. Thankfully, they left continuing their discussion.

Talking Re: Comedy of Errors at Indian Dealerships

This didn't exactly transpire at a dealership but I think the 'comedy of errors' bit is unmistakable. So the boss has recently added a 5-er to his garage - more particularly a spanking new 525d. I was obviously ogling at her during one of my post-lunch strolls in the building. A slightly uninitiated colleague (SUC) caught me staring, came over and we got chatting.

Yours Truly: Man, she looks stunning!
SUC: You mean the car?
YT: Yup, the Beemer. Just look at her...
SUC (shocked expression): Bro, cars are neuter gender in English. You ought to use the pronoun 'it'. Look at it - not look at her!
YT: Er..what do you know?! My English is a little weak!!

And so it went on for another few minutes. Meanwhile I got a chance to show off some so I wasn't complaining. Inevitably we got to what's under the hood.

SUC: What engine does it have?
YT: This one has 3.0L six cylinder diesel engine mated to an 8-speed gearbox
SUC: 8-speed??
YT: Sure, why?
SUC: Why do you need 8 gears in India? Its useless. We don't need more than 5!
YT: Not necessarily bro, a lot of cars these days have 6-speed transmission. Besides these are very advanced engines designed for all-round performance with an extremely competitive and evolved gearbox. Unlike regular cars. Hence gears #7 and #8.
SUC: Oh now I get it! 2 reverse gears...
YT: Excuse me?!
SUC: When you want to reverse normally, you use #7! When you want to reverse very fast, you use #8!!
YT: Er...

I was dumbstruck and had no repartee to this 'blond moment' that I witnessed first hand. So I decided to quietly exit the scene of crime.

I'm nitpicking but if he got it this year then its a 2.0l 4 cylinder from the 520d with an extra turbo

This is an innocent comment which keeps bringing a smile on my face! I was in Muscat for 3 months where the traffic is neat and near zero honking happens, as we all know. Once e were back, we set onto a long journey to Mookambika as I was driving all the way. So my 8 year old niece was watching me driving and was looking at all the mad traffic around & honking going on.

At one point she suddenly jumped forward from the back seat, came near me and told this with a worried & unpleasant face! "Uncle, if you keep honking like that, we are going to run out of the horn for the return trip"!! Well, from a logic perspective, I couldn't find a mistake with it!

I was given this logic at a Merc dealership on their 7G-tronic, 5 Front - 2 reverse. I went for a car that had faster front gears

Are you guys sure?? The car is barely a week old. IIRC, both the 525d and the 530d used the same BMW N57 family 3.0-liter straight-6 in different states of tune.

Oh maybe this is part of BMW's engine downsizing program globally.
