I don't understand why this logic is not applicable to the fielder?

After all it is a team sport and whether it is the batsman or the fielder; they are both playing so that the team will win. The batman is defending himself for his team just as the fielder is.

Exactly what I'm trying to say.

If Dravid or any batsman has every reason to deny that he had nicked, even if he had, then in the same vein, Clarke or any other fielder could very well say that the catch was clean for the sake of his team.

If we say that the fielder is in the best postition to gauge the clean-ness of a take, then the batsman is also arguably the best person to comment on nicks. Why not take his word for such cases?

If we doubt the batsman's integrity and believe that he may not be truthful, how can we assume that the same batsman when fielding will be truthful?

Andrew must hire an agent and attract the attention of the producers of the new Ramayan movie/serial to audition for the role of…Hanuman - the powerful monkey god who is worshipped by many Indians.

Symonds has the height, the build and he bloody well has the looks. I have no doubts that he will - with the blessings of Dara Singh - be the best ever Hanuman to be portrayed on Film.

Why suspend? Banish this tour and come back. If suspended, then there are every possibility of again playing. BCCI should ask them to come back home now. Not point in overstaying...

Secnodly, if the tour has to take place, then they should abandon/scrap the sydney test and make this series as 3 match series. This will somehow calm the nerves of millions of people.

This is what Im trying to say.

It is expected that the game is played in good spirit and fair manner.

So, it is expected that:

a) A batsman should walk if he has knicked it, as he is the best person to tell.

b) A fielder and other fielders (if around) should say what is expected from them as, he/they is/are in the best position to say.

Hey man, these things won't happen in real world. Proof: 2nd test in Sydney. So we can forget about such Utopian stuff now and worry about :
a) how to find whether a batsman has nicked or not.
b) how to find whether a fielder has taken the catch clealy or not.

What bugs me is that apparently the agreement was something like ...
a. A fielder gets the chance to say Yes I have caught it, No I have not caught it
b. A batsman only gets the chance to say Yes I have nicked it by walking, but no forum to say No I have not nicked it other than staying - which most do even if they nick. And a batsman staying at the crease rarely seems to have any effect on the umpires decision.

Clarke who stayed put after gloving a ball, is believed when he takes a catch !

Don't the umpires hear about the bad decisions, see the replays at the end of the day? I can understand someone having a bad day in One-day match. But knowing you have made a few bad decisions, would you not be more careful the next day?

Australia beats India, equals world record | ICC Cricket News

Website of International Cheaters Council -> Australia beats India, equals world record

If you read the article, it would appear as if great aussies humbled indian team and there were absolute no controversies.

News just in on TimesNow -> No decision yet on Bucknor by ICC. So he may screw India in Perth. Tendulkar has sent an sms telling board team will return if bhajji is not cleared.

Good work Tendulkar.

One more gem from Orkut:

“Bhajji would have most probably yelled ‘Maa ki‘, which Symonds mistakenly heard as ‘Monkey’!”

End of all problems.

Tour might get suspended or whatever... Why haven't they made an appeal to annul the Sydney match?

If anybody remembers The Mike Denness Controversy? Here is the recap rediff.com: cricket channel - The Mike Denness Controversy

This issue was finally settled this way:

  • The BCCI ended a stand-off with the International Cricket Council on Friday by dropping Sehwag -- ruled ineligible for the Mohali Test because of a one-match ban -- after including him in the squad him in defiance of the world body.
  • But Shah said Sehwag would be kept with the rest of the squad to show the Indian board's support for the player.
  • Sehwag was handed a one-match suspension by match referee Mike Denness for excessive appealing during the second Test in South Africa last month.
rediff.com: cricket channel - Martin to replace Sehwag

So much so for BCCI's spine.

diabloo With so much money running here why are they scared? They can start their own world body and name it ICCI and it will run better. Just see the number of TV viewers for any Ind Pak game and compare with any aussies match to know about it.
