I was going to suggest that but only till Ooty, then I remebered the horrible road between B'lore and Mysore. The last time I went on it a year back, the work on 4 laning the road was going on and we were made to take a very long detour into the villages. Left Mysore at 16:30 and reached B'lore at 21:30 with just one break, One of the worst drives I have had.

Btw, the Kodaikanal ghat roads from Palani are in a very poor shape for nearly half the way up, about 25kms or an hour. Single lane road, craters, all kinds of stones on the road and kinda steep. After this till the junction you meet the road from Madurai and to Munnar the road is decent. After the junction its absolute flat tarmac. On my way back frm Kodai I went down towards Madurai and the road is absolute bliss to drive.

I did this big trip in August starting from Madras went to Hosur, Salem, Ooty........and then finally back to Madras after a week and 2200kms. Anyway, if you want to do Kodai, go via Krishnagiri, Salem, Coimbatore, Pollachi and Palani....The other route is extra long. The road is good and bad is sections but once you get to Kodai, its worth it.

Go to Kodai, its absolute bliss to be there.....Peaceful and relaxing.

Guys, what would be the best way to Kodaikanal in December?
I want a hassle free route. Remember, my Optra has very low ground clearance.

Here...
Blore- Kodai (485Kms) ; ~11hours drive.

Route: Bangalore-Dindigul via Hosur, Dharmapuri, Salem (NH70, Salem-Kodaikanal via Sembatti, Vattakundu, Pannikadu (District Hill Road); Kodaikanal.

This was the highly prefered route some time back,,,not sure about now.

Mysore route isnt so bad now, as they've completed a lot of stretches. There is still a lot of work to be done, but at least the surfaces are smooth in most places.

I did that stretch in July with my Accent and had a torrid time. Drove back from Bangalore in October on this route since the highway to Salem was reported washed away in many places, and I reached Mysore pretty fast. In fact I was in Srirangapatnam before I realised it. Early start, though - about 5.30 am.

How about chicmangalur? The Taj resort there is amazing, and till Hassan roads are amazing.
Also from there you can take the mountain road to kudremukh national park and baba budangiri, and visit coffee estates too
