Default A new milestone....in what?

Guys,

I was driving back from Trichy to B'lore yesterday, when I noticed this all along the ~70 km stretch from Trichy to Namakkal:
A new milestone....in what?-04082010030.jpg

This is a new milestone in corruption? in stupidity? in wasting the taxpayers' money? In spite of thinking hard and long about it, I was not able to come up with even one logical reason that calls for this activity.

Or, am I missing something here??

cheers,

Rajan

If they don't use the newly bought milestone (that may have been bought through shady tendering) They have to store it some place. Now that would look suspicious right.

The old one will be definitely be taken by someone in comming days. Now that is automatic disposal of waste.

To me, the new one looks like made of concrete while the old one is stone. This might be for additional safety in case of an accident.
I had once hit my face on one of these stone mile stones. Luckily, the speed wasn't much since the fall was from a bycycle and I escaped with some minor scratches.

beats me. And more so, if this was the only one that was "replaced" in that stretch. It doesnt make sense till i read the newspaper again. There I find many other similar stories and then it all starts making sense. "We are like this only"

I think the new one is far better than the old; reason being that the new one is properly laid on a good concrete platform, atleast, looks like concrete for now.

If you call it wasting tax payers money, to an extent yes, they could've reused the existing one to mount on the concrete platform.

But hey, if they reuse the old one how will they copy the information from the old one & they could lead to SH25 to SH52

Come on guys looks to me more like they are replacing the old ones with newer ones with better paltforms. The old one has most of the data erased on it.

With the new ones having no data at all.

Or might be the case that the details might have been written with an invisible ink/paint.

Call Harry Potter quick.

1. The old milestone, is really stone, and probably been there for decades.
2. That was also set in base, not as elaborate as the current one.
3. I believe all that was needed was a fresh coat of paint.
4. The new concrete one will not last as long and will develop cracks in a matter of 4 - 5 years.
5. I think this would ensure recurring income to contractors / officials.

Just my POV.

I think so too.
It would be less damaging for a vehicle and it occupants that hits a concrete block rather than a much harder and tougher Granite slab.

We dont know why there are doing that.
Any development activity in this country is always done to enrich some people who would implement such things, commonwealth being the biggest example

Just a module in 'Corruption 101' IMO. It ensures quite and free flow of income for all. The only losers are the taxpayer but who cares?
Re-laying of perfectly working milestones, laying and relaying of road patched again and again and yet again. Its the same story everywhere and its all around us. There is nothing we can do about it.

Concrete is also as strong as stone and in some cases it is much more stronger than stone. So safety is not the reason they are changing it.

My guess is, if they have to replace the old stone on these platforms they will have to erect a bigger platform, and that would cost more.(if you see in the pic the newer ones are small)
So they must have gone for newer and smaller ones to reduce the cost.

Be it concrete or stone, the idea of changing is to keep the contractor's pcoket jingling all through the year courtsey some stake holding govt officials.
In the era of technology, are we still restricting ourselves to stones and concretes. Why dont we have the above head fluroscent directions signs which would be visible during day and night too. These stones are too difficult to be visible at night.

You guys are missing the big picture.
The white deity appeared overnight and a huge temple would be built around, to help safe travel along the highway.

Edit: Pun intended
