Yesterday we faced yet another challenge to our growth and prosperity in the form of those disruptive forces who fired indiscriminately and killed a scientist.

Well there is virtually no security apparatus built-in as such at IISc... or for that matter even at IITs. I can tell you from my experience. Even the guy who fired just walked in, committed the act and then lost his way around while retreating Still he managed to calmly walk off without any challenges. Even the walls of the IISc campus are scalable. :p

Security threat is a big issue not only in Bangalore but also in Hyderabad. For those who are not aware of in the past 1 week three LeT men have been caught in Hyderabad. They all had plans to cause major chaos in Hi-Tech city area. This is the nerve center of this fast upcoming economic hub of the country. One good thing though that has happened in the past few days though is that all the exit/entry points to Hi-Tech city have been sealed off. You have to pass through sandbagged and barricaded police outposts to reach Hi-Tech city. Even the big organizations here have become more security conscious. Nowadays they put a mirror underneath each car to check it from below as well as open the doors and even the hatch befor they allow entry to a complex here.

All that is good. It needs to be strengthened even more I am sure. Only thing that sucks I feel is the attitude of some employees. This I have seen at mostly self-owned, stand-alone IT complexes. Some employees feel they loose honour if the guard asks for the ID or wants to see it a bit more clearly. Give them a break guys... they are only doing their job. Its for our own collective good.

What is your view on this? Do you agree that we do need to sensitise people a little bit more so that people do not take a simple query by the security guard at a place as a major ego setback?

Tell me about it! If there is a terrorist attack, these same people will say that security did not do it's job with responsiblity. Some people are never satisfied!
