LBM Bhai, I know you're talking about this:

the TS-20 is cross at 7k and higher which contains a lots and lots of treble which will only cause fatigue nothing else.
which you mentioned here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/ask-gu...er-advice.html (tweeter advice)

I am referring to the fake ones, paaji. I once had the opportunity (can I call it that? ) to listen to some fake ones in a friend's car. The EQ setting was all haywire agreed, but the tweeters produced abrupt higher mids (even after I tried to tame the EQ). It was like the roadside tape sellers systems - who generally play bollywood music and every singer's voice sounds too damn shrill - enough to blow your eardrums to smithereens. However, I may have gone wrong with the range a little since it was only a one-time experience and instantaneous decision.

LBM is right and also remember guys with "comb filter effects" the combination of the 2 tweeters might actually sound less irritating than just one tweeter.

^^

Someone has posted this earlier on TBhp too, I think. Remember seeing this earlier.

I'm not sure, but it could be pics of a very good sounding setup. From the door panel, it looks like W-I-P. The drivers look like good quality ones, although I cant identify which ones they are.

After all the noise Maruti makes about warranty and what not, their own work is a damn joke, and is not worth Cr@p. They keep trying to find fault with aftermarket shops. The snaps of the install below I have not even seen happening in JC road, even they are better. This install was done on a Swift Dezire in Bimal motors for a JBL gt5 component speaker, no wooden spacer ring was used to install this speaker, even if it would have been some ply wood it would not have been this bad. The spacer ring here is actually a Sony speaker grill
Two screws were put through each speaker instead of 4 and to add icing to the cake they did not even hook up the crossover with the component, ths mid woofer and tweeter was connected to the head unit directly.

If I get to see the technician who fitted this install, he will get this.

I wont be surprised if the -ve of cross over was connected to ground as well.
On a lighter note, the installer might have wanted the front stage to be 'active'

Why blame the car companies for the bad work by untrained individuals at the dealerships?

Maruti, or for that matter any other car company, does not speak to prospective buyers and customers directly. Ever! Their own employees live in marble castles (or ivory towers) well insulated from the ones who face the music. Their ONLY relationship is with numbers, and NOT what customers say. There are exceptions, but those are individual efforts, NOT company policies. The same is the state with ICE component manufacturers, with a few notable exceptions.

The dealers are a different lot - some of them close the circle with the company, some only bother about numbers (it is a business after all). The "ICE & Accessories" is a section is operated as a private extension by the dealer, NOT by the car company. Car companies do not run training courses for this part - they leave it to the dealers' consciousness / knowledge (or rather, lack of it). The "warranty will be void" myth is also propagated by them - they run the service center too.

They only care about quick sales to people who only want an "Ishtereo". If one knows what they want, they quickly point to JC Road dealers. Installer training? Trained installers? What sir you be asking?

Just for the heck of it, someone should put a banner/poster outside such dealerships: "If you want a stereo system, buy it elsewhere. This dealership does not have a clue"!

@Deralteji

But isnt it a common sense to go through the installation manual of the equipment? In this particular case, GT-5 perhaps has the simplest manual. There aren't any text with technical jargons (except the specifications in different languages). Everything is detailed in diagrams. Leave the rings, at least the wiring could have been done correctly if one had looked into the manual.

While this used to be a given earlier, with the prfit margins going down to being wafer-thin on cars, almost all new car accessory showrooms appoint an accessory manager and run their own dealerships instead of outsourcing the operations.

Yes Dhar's. It is common sense.

And yet, almost always - neither the dealers, nor the installers or for that matter, even the consumers never read it in India.

Do you think it is part of our culture not to read the manual? I wonder...

I have not come across ONE car dealership in Mumbai that has a clue.

Well it seems to be an male trait.

Some years ago when mainframe computers were in vogue I was asked by my boss to open, check, and repack a computer for a client. Now these computers were complex machines with dedicated workstations etc.. and I was barely 1 week old at work.

Anyway after I opened the boxes (with help), I took out the various compoents and connected them. It took all of 1 day to finally get the system working. At 5pm I proudly went back to my boss and told him that I had done what he had asked.

He looked at me incredously. Apparently I had missed a package that was included with the hardware - a set of manuals wrapped i shrink wrap and labelled "READ THIS FIRST".
