Hi Navin !

I have already crossed 180 sq. ft.
So, your estimation of 250 is not very off;
It might just reach there.
It is needed.

Yes, I love damping. Have been using it for 5 - 7 years now.
I had first tried it in my Fiat Palio - 1.6 GTX. It made a 'huge' differance.

I have never done any install without it.

In the old days when damping was not easily available I used to buy 1.5m thick lead sheet from a shop opposite Pydhonie police station. About 40kgs was used to damp my Contessa.

why not use sand? sand vibrates and converts mechanical kinetic energy into heat. lead sheets just store it and convert into potential energy which is released later.

Sir,

If I had to fill Pb pallets in a Stand, then it would weigh 200 kgs +++

I use a mix of 4 items.

Sand - River & Beach
Stone - Pebles & 'Khadi' [used in construction called 'metal']
Pb - pallets / shots

Pure Pb is too expensive & very very heavy.

I use Pb on the bottom - 3 to 4 inches, then I put 2 types of stones & finally fill it with sand - 2 types.

But this is Off Topic. Sorry !!!

  • Yamraj on a buffalo and @b&t on a cow (with piped refreshments) - good mythological imagery!!!
  • Perhaps @b&t could install a GGP and become eligible for the next Nobel prize after Al Gore
  • Wonder where he will fit his hand-made subs?
  • We will have to define a new category - OCE (On Cow Entertainment).
B's 'complete damping' reminds me of Russian engineering (no sir, I am not ridiculing your work): best risk mitigation by over-engineering everything by a factor of 4. One of my earliest refurb jobs was to replace a Russian mag amp + relays control system (for turbo-generators): the cabinet was 5mm steel sheet, hermetically sealed! Had to use a TIG welder to cut the blooming thing open to see the innards!

Navin: did you upgrade the engine of your Conti? With the equivalent of 1 extra person's weight, that tin can would have sunk to the ground and refused to move.

Origin of the phrase describing most new Indian roads: "metalled roads"!!!

The contessa engine could be re-bored but no I did not do it. I did however change shocks to gas shocks (forgot the brand but they were red in colour). I also had to run my rear tyres a bit harder (more air pressure than recommeneded) to compensate for the added weight.

The TL however was built so that there was room for an igloo. When you are single your priorities are a bit different.
