What's the top speed you had reached in this Chennai - Coimbatore trip?

Arrow 718 kms -14 hrs.

Have done many long distance runs, 2 stretches were memmorable and chellenging to man and machine with the sun-set deadlines, driving alone on a Fusion:

1. 2005-October: Pune to Ahmedabd thro one of the meanest roads: Nashik, Saputara twisties, navsari, baroda - 718 kms - 0630 AM - 0840 PM - 14 hours +- about 2 hours break for food and fuel. People who know this stretch will know this is a mind and back brreaking route.

2. 2006 August: Ahmedabad - jaisalmir thro: palanpur, deesa- dharena (40 kms of gravel) sanchor - barmer - 0740 AM to 0300 PM = 7.2 hrs, 535 KM - About - 45 mts break for fuel and food -

Chennai to Bangalore (in 1993) for pub crawling and back to Chennai within 24 hour period in a Maruti 800.

Chennai to Kovai (in 2003) in 8 hours with one break for lunch and return trip after two days in a Hyundai Santro.

Longest by far on one trip alone would be the non-stop 800 mile drive (with an hour break for breakfast) from San Francisco to Tempe (near Phoenix) during the crowded Labor Day long weekend in September 2000. In those three days, did roughly 2100 miles in totum which included the return trip to SFO via Los Angeles, a visit to the grand canyon from Tempe and back etc. That was one helluva memorable trip where I had people zooming past me at 130+ mph on the lonely stretches in the desert.

Sept 27th 3am: Start from Chennai....Tiruchi at 8 30am...Madurai....10 30am...The port City of Tuticorin at 12 noon. Total kms: 575. on my spanking new Baleno LXi. It had returned from the first free inspection only the previous evening!

(Grandfather was down with Chikungunya...so had to make an emergency dash all the way down South)

The Chennai to Tindivanam stretch at night is almost like a runway!

You know that speed limits in our country are a farce when a major national daily commends Mr Prakruthi N. Banwasi for "an astounding average of 97.8 km/h."

Instead of being felicitated he should have been immediately arrested!

1950KM in 21 hours.... of course it was not in India! Long Island, NY to Port St. Lucie in Florida. That was one hell of a trip. Automobile Mag recentley did a similar trip from NYC to Miami which is more like 2050KMs in 18 hours and 49 minutes where they raced FedEx overnight in a Bentley Continental GT with $6000 of surveilance equipment for avoiding jail. Makes my caffeine induced trip seem pretty respectable in proportion!

Goa - Pune - Goa on 01Jan'07 started at 0200 hrs and was back in Goa at about 1800 hrs on the same day. The total came to about 1050 kms in 18 hrs. Had to do it because of an emergency situation.
