Default Indica V2 GLS XETA catches fire while driving.

Hi Team BHPians, This is my first thread here ,

I was cycling as usual inside the DRDO campus in CV Raman Nagar Bangalore (near Baghmane tech park) and I saw a crowd around a car in the middle of the road. Thinking it may be a minor accident, I went ahead with my cycling without giving much importance, when I returned after a while, i saw the car parked in same location with no one around. On closer inspection I found that the car engine had caught fire. The guard near the main gate told me that the car caught fire while it was moving.

Is this normal with Tata Indica cars, I have been in a similar situation a couple of years back. I was coming back home from work in a office Indicab and the same thing happened. The engine caught fire without any engine warning.

Here are the pictures, sorry for the poor quality (Taken with a Blackberry curve phone)

nope, not normal. this hasnt happened to any of our indicas.

usual reasons - bad ICE installation - without using a wiring harness
bad LPG Installation etc....

Wow, thats some stuff which happened inside. The battery area looks to be the culprit.

Saw the same thing happen to an Omni a couple of weeks back while waiting at the signal near St John hospital on Hosur road. I saw the Omni suddenly start smoking, the driver and passengers scrambled out and then it was in flames.

I don't think it is specific to a car model, probably the result of bad upkeep and using incorrect parts etc.

That sounds nasty. I believe the omni is one of the most dangerous vehicles around. No protection whatsoever from the front.

True. Sometimes, at these times, assuming the owner opted for saving a few bucks here and there, all such savings by purchasing/installation from a non-professional become meaningless.

Hope his insurance covers the loss.

The bonnet seems charred! Must have been quite an intense fire. Lucky the guys got out safe. Could it be possible that there was a leak in the fuel lines from the engine? Again, not something seen in Indicas.

Here are the pics of an Indica which caught fire yesterday in Bangalore. Engine bay burned out completely. No damage to any other parts of the car as the security used fire extinguishers on time.
