Default Powerful, chilling or insensitive? Anti-speeding NZ govt ad (video)

Admins: Move this to a different thread if it best.

Just accidentally had to watch this anti-speeding video by Govt of Northern Ireland, which by means is absolutely chilling and downright insensitive to me but the message is brutally honest! I had chills down my spine after watching it!

There are other videos from Australian and NZ govt regarding speeding and about belting up but this to me, just crossed the line. I am not being equally insensitive by putting up this post but somehow the message seemed excessively powerful though I doubt it would help alter human behavior!

As far as I'm concerned that would be only relevant critiria, are these adds effectively reducing speeding related accidents. i dont know.

But along similar lines I can share one of my own experiences when still working in the Offshore. In those days there where fatalities and horrific accidents every year. it could get pretty rough.

One company I worked for introduced safety bulletins on every accident. Every empolyee got his/her own own safety bulletin and you had to sign off for having read and understand. One day the added photographs showing your (dead) collegueas and or close ups of horrible injuries. (Torn of limbs etc.) to the safety bulletin. It was very graphic as you can imagine

The accident rates dropped dramatically!

So there at least it worked

It indeed sent chills down my spine. It shows the ill-effects of overspeeding and how one can suffer from someone else's mistake. Atleast I will definitely remember this ad whenever I get that urge to overspeed!

If this doesn't appeal to over speeding careless drivers, then nothing ever can.

I am with Jeroen: in industrial settings, people (especially with long work experience) become over confident about a lot of hazardous things. Graphic imagery is one of the ways to make them actually think about their behavior, actions and attitude in general.

That is one brutal advertisement.

I did NOT expect that to happen the way it did. So Shocking. YES IT IS!!!

But I don't think its a insensitive advert.
Its a chilling reminder of just how difficult it is to control a car once the speed is high.

That sends shivers up my spine.

But it is not insensitive by any means. If this is what it takes to ensure safety on the road, so be it. It sends a powerful message to the viewers.

Particularly the face of the child in the last part, just when the car is rolling towards them, will be imprinted on the minds of people who watch this.

In deed guys, the video made a substantial impact on me that I thought I should share it. Insensitive or not, it just drills the message right into you..

@ Jeroen: Wow! that should be grotesque to start a day with pictures of such intense natures! No wonder it made an impact!

@ bblost: "Brutal" that is one word that captures it better.. when you have little ones at home, the feel is multiplied x times.

Not being a crusader of anti-speeding or anything of the sort but found another similar video. I think the inclusion of innocent children in the act makes it far more powerful tool to deliver the message, if at all someone takes time to watch it.

I would completely agree, this advert "brutally" drives home the issue being addressed and including children only amplifies the effect it has (as pointed out by Kris_risk), because i believe little ones are the epitome of innocence.

For somebody watching, to put it in 4 words : Message received (loud and clear)
