A moment of madness... and a life time to repent. When will these idiots stop driving a vehicle after enjoying the drinks. You enjoy one thing at a time, no multi tasking here.

It reminds me of the famous words of spider-man, With great power, comes great responsibility.

Sad for those affected family. Read that a Tamil actor has come forward to take care of the expenses of the orphaned girl who lost her mother few months ago and her father few days ago.

Meanwhile the car dealer's bail plea says that the car belonged to him and was being driven by Vikash, who was drunk, and who caused the accident.

Isn't it typical?
Blame the "other guy" and lie through their teeth to get out of trouble.
A Boulder on Cathedral Road? Bah! In my memory there is not even any open manhole on Cathedral road in general.
Akbar Ebrahim has made a fair and decent statement. He is a pretty nice guy - Ive met him a few times here and there in and around MMSC/Sriperumbudur and the MCC Club.
But this youngster has lost his future in one fell swoop. Thats it. All Ruined.

Any news on the poor Auto Drivers who are the worst affected? Poor guys.

In that case, weren't there any CCTVs installed along that road anywhere which may provide some video evidence against the purported claim or lack thereof.

A boulder in the middle of one of Chennai's bestest city-centre main roads. Not impossible. Although an unlit traffic barrier would actually be slightly more likely!

But... I don't know what the view from a Porsche driving seat looks like. Would one even see a "boulder," at night, before driving over it?

Well, we shouldn't be calling him a professional anymore, Should we?? Calling him that, is, in all probability an insult to the actual professionals.

Not at all surprising! You can go any lengths to defend oneself in our courts.

And for the benefit of people outside Chennai, this accident took place in one of the most prominent locations in the heart of the City.

Its one of the best maintained roads in the city. The main reason being - Turn Right from the accident spot and drive for 2 minutes, you will reach the current Chief Ministers Residence. Turn left from the accident spot and drive for 1 minute, you will reach the Ex-Chief Ministers Residence.

The law can be amended, re made, re vamped and so on.
The punishment also can be made seriously punitive.
But as my Uncle once said to me nearly 30 years ago.
It's really not the law. Its the enforcement of it, in an impartial, consistent manner, against the wrongdoer or evildoer.
Sadly, it is very true that we are a Giant Banana Republic, populated by a bunch of highly Intelligent yet powerless OR disinterested spectators (like Nero's Guests).
Ruled however, by a bunch of ruthless, excessively intelligent plutocratic types, who have perpetuated the game of crony-ism, a sort of "inner circle" if you will, whose members very rarely get penalised for anything they do, while the rest of us in the outer circles and outer darkness, rant and rave and wail at the injustice of it all...

Thats the state of affairs here in India.

With great "Growth" comes great "Corruption" and so shall we fall too, in the manner of the Old Testament of the Bible, Sodom and Gomorrah and Nineveh and all the rest - all which became too corrupt and wicked to sustain. Even great civilisations like Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece, declined out of corruption, laziness and "accidie"...

It is lamentable.

Saying all this, I really do hope that those innocents who are hurt and affected by this, are looked after as best as possible.

Unfortunate that this is the law. If a person drives after drinking, he/she puts them and others at risk. They should be slapped with both suicide and murder charges and punished severely. Until then, nothing is going to change!

What a disgrace. He obviously won't serve any time, either for drunk driving or killing another person, because of his influential family. But this is expected to end his racing career.

The Indian and racing fraternity will probably use him as a poster child for the hazards of drunk and negligent driving.

So if we go by the version they have put up in the bail plea, shouldn't it be easy for the cops to prove their claim :
  • Check the boulder. If it was hit by the Porsche, it would have broken and would also have some smears of blue paint on it.
  • There would be some "boulder damage" on the Porsche on the side it was hit.
  • Check the tyres and see if they have burst (the LGS tyres look proper to me)
  • Check the car electronics to see what speeds it was doing before the accident.
  • As someone mentioned check for CCTV cameras around.
  • Check with locals /shopkeepers around if there was a boulder in the road.
  • Anyone who has been using that road and had a dash cam mounted can also come forward if he has footage of the road - to see if there was a boulder.

As far as the ownership is concerned - below is what I had posted in the Supercars crashes thread.

As per Vahan.in, the car seems to be registered under some Onkar International Pvt Ltd which is a travel company. Probably the car was brought from them and hasn't been transferred into racerboy's name.

The cynic (or maybe realist) in me says: While it will be very easy for the cops to prove the case, by some mysterious means, they will suddenly decide to not investigate the case properly. Which will lead to the defense attorney to pick all the holes in the prosecution case, and voila! The poor autorikshaw driver committed suicide, the car drove itself, the black buck shot itself, etc etc etc.

Newsflash: Driverless cars launched in Chennai, India. Tesla, Google, etc. all astounded.
When contacted for a comment, Salman Khan said "Having owned a prototype years ago, I knew we had the know-how to get these cars on the road"
