Default Avoidable Accident - My Experience

It was 8 pm, when I was riding my bike back from office the other day. I was cruising at safe 45 Km/hr on a double road with a median. Suddenly, I was hit on my chest and fell down with great pain.

There was person who had just stolen 2 meter long tor steel pieces from a construction site on the other side of the road and was in a hurry to cross the road. He had crossed one road and was standing in the median with a meter or so steel bars jutting in front of him.

It was dark plus the headlights of vehicles coming in the opposite direction was blinding me. The dust and scratches in my helmet's visor made visibility poor. I could make out a man standing, but had no clue of the steel bars juting right in front of me at my chest height.

I rammed right into the steel bars and fell down.

Lessons learnt:

1. Change helmet's visor once a year.
2. Dark visors make no sense. Instead use googles in the day, if needed.
3. Clean your visors every day.
4. Scrap scratched visors

Enjoy driving safely!

one more lesson you should have learnt:
its a double road with a median, so other vehicles going in your direction will be going pretty fast, in that case (as your speed is only 45kmph), you should be on the LHS of the road not near the median.

I hope you're alright.

But yeah.. 45 km/h in the right late on a double road with a median??? Thats not cool. If you're going that slow stay on the left or else you'll only cause more accidents.

Helmets are a real blessing..

But riding with helmet in the dark can be hard... Specially with tart tinted visors... Am considering buying another one for night riding...

Dark glasses/googles may not be an option if you wear powered lenses/spectacles like me. I end up wearing contact lenses just to have the option of wearing dark glasses duing day time. It is also a good idea to keep a dark visor and a clear lens visor while riding.
